Driver
Overview
The Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transportation of store product from the Wilmer distribution facility to nearby Cavender's store locations. This role primarily operates a company box truck on established local delivery routes, with the ability to operate a CDL-class vehicle when routes, volume, or business needs require it. The Route Driver is a critical link between the DC and the stores it serves, and every stop is a promise that product arrives on schedule, complete, and floor-ready.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the “Cavender’s Culture” and drive our Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Run the route safely and on time. Operate a company box truck, or a CDL-class vehicle as assigned, on established delivery routes between the Wilmer DC and nearby stores, meeting scheduled pickup and delivery windows.
- Load and secure product correctly. Verify load accuracy against manifests, and properly load, secure, and protect product to prevent damage or shifting in transit.
- Deliver complete and accurate. Confirm store receipt against shipping documentation at each stop, resolving discrepancies on the spot when possible and reporting anything that can't be.
- Communicate proactively. Keep dispatch and the outbound team informed of route status, delays, or issues that could affect delivery timing, so nobody is caught off guard.
- Complete pre- and post-trip inspections. Perform and document vehicle safety and operations checklists before and after every route, flagging maintenance needs immediately.
- Comply with all traffic laws and safety regulations. Operate every vehicle, box truck or CDL, in full compliance with DOT and company safety standards.
- Represent Cavender's on the road. Be a positive, professional presence at every store and with the public — the truck and the driver are the brand in that moment.
- Own your vehicle and equipment. Keep the cab, cargo area, and any handheld or scanning equipment clean, organized, and ready to run.
- Flex where the business needs you. Operate a CDL-class vehicle in addition to primary box truck duties when routes, volume, or coverage require it.
- Support the broader distribution team. Assist with loading and unloading at the DC between routes and take on other duties as assigned.
