Driver/Runner Furniture Pickup & Delivery

JOB SUMMARY

The Driver/Runner is responsible for picking up and delivering furniture pieces between vendors, warehouses, showrooms, and client properties throughout the city. This role requires safe vehicle operation, careful handling of furniture and decor items, and timely, professional service at each stop. This position involves driving a company van or pickup truck only — no trailers or box trucks are required. The Driver/Runner may also assist with light warehouse duties and in-home placement of furniture as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely operate company vehicles, exhibiting defensive and safe driving techniques at all times.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections and maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles.
  • Identify and promptly report any vehicle maintenance issues to management.
  • Pick up furniture and decor items from vendors, warehouses, showrooms, or other designated locations.
  • Load/unload furniture and items safely and efficiently, securing items properly to prevent shifting or damage during transport.
  • Use moving equipment (dollies, straps, blankets, etc.) to protect furniture and property during transport and placement.
  • Deliver furniture to the correct residential or commercial addresses in a timely manner.
  • Utilize navigation systems and company route/schedule tools to ensure the most efficient delivery routes.
  • Assist with in-home or on-site placement of furniture, including light assembly, arranging pieces per client/designer instructions, hanging art or mirrors, and other finishing touches as directed.
  • Run time-sensitive errands as needed, such as picking up materials, samples, or supplies from vendors.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, designers, warehouse staff, and clients to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and scheduling changes.
  • Report hazardous or dangerous conditions along routes or at job sites (traffic, road conditions, building access issues, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate records of pickups and deliveries (e.g., delivery confirmations, photos, signatures) as required.
  • Comply with all DOT rules and regulations, as well as company and client-specific policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all safety standards in the warehouse, in vehicles, and at job sites.
  • Assist with general warehouse duties (organizing inventory, staging furniture for delivery, etc.) as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
