Position Overview


The Certified Driver Trainer plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all commercial vehicles within the Solid Waste Division. This position is responsible for onboarding, training, and mentoring new and existing drivers, reinforcing company safety standards, and maintaining compliance with DOT and company policies. The Driver Trainer will serve as a subject matter expert on waste collection vehicle operation, customer service expectations, and route efficiency.

Key Responsibilities


  • Training & Development
  • Conduct new-hire driver training on equipment operation and safety instruction.
  • Deliver hands-on training focused on DOT compliance, defensive driving, pre- and post-trip inspections, and load securement.
  • Evaluate driver performance through ride-alongs, route audits, and skill assessments.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, refresher courses, and remedial training when needed.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce company safety policies and ensure compliance with all DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and assist with root-cause analysis and corrective action plans.
  • Maintain accurate training records, driver evaluations, and certification documentation.
  • Support the Safety Department with audits, safety meetings, and compliance initiatives.
  • Operational Support
  • Collaborate with Operations Managers and Route Supervisors to identify training needs and performance trends.
  • Monitor driver route performance to improve efficiency and service quality.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting professionalism and positive work culture.
  • Assist with new equipment orientation and rollout of updated operational procedures.
