Summary
Operates company vehicles to transport personnel and materials in Papua New Guinea, performs daily inspections, and maintains road safety compliance.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable and efficient transport services for authorised personnel, goods and materials, while maintaining vehicle safety standards and complying with company procedures and road safety requirements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS & ACCOUNTABILITIES
The role is accountable for safely transporting authorised personnel and materials, maintaining assigned vehicles, following transport schedules and supporting administrative and operational runs as required.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate company vehicles while transporting authorised personnel, goods, and materials.
- Ability to consistently perform and record daily vehicle pre-start inspections using the approved checklist.
- Capacity to review transport schedules each afternoon for both the current and following day, ensuring all assigned transport tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
- Commitment to promptly report accidents, incidents, vehicle defects, and workplace hazards, and complete all required reports, statements, and documentation.
- Willingness and ability to assist with the packaging, loading, and dispatch of goods, materials, and equipment as required.
- Flexibility to undertake additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the Transport Coordinator to support operational requirements.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Grade 10 Certificate
- Excellent driving skills.
- Ability to read and write.
- Sound understanding of road and traffic laws.
- Good basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics.
- Flexible approach, with effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Minimum five years’ experience as a Driver with a good driving record.
- Experience driving buses and semi-trailers.
- Experience operating heavy vehicles in urban, highway and site-based environments.
- Knowledge of safe loading, securing and handling of passengers, goods and materials.
- Possession of a Class 4 or Class 6 driver’s licence, or both, is an advantage
Desirable
- Good traffic judgement and road awareness.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English and Tok Pisin.
