DSHS FTAA Fiscal Specialist 1

Accurate pay starts with strong systems and the people who keep them running. DSHS is hiring for a Fiscal Specialist 1 to keep payroll records correct and on time at Lakeland Village, in Medical Lake. Lakeland Village is a 24-hour home for people with developmental disabilities.

As a Fiscal Specialist 1, you will enter work hours and leave time into the state's payroll system. You will check your work against state rules, agency policy, and union contracts. You will also help track money and supplies for the Local Funds program, and help build reports on that spending. Employees will also come to you with questions about their pay and leave, and you will help them find answers.

Please note: This position is 100% on-site with no telework options. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you'll do:
  • Enter work hours and leave time for Lakeland Village staff into the state payroll system.
  • Check payroll paperwork closely for mistakes before entering it.
  • Add up leave balances, part-time hours, overtime, and unpaid leave each pay period.
  • Follow state, federal, and agency rules, plus union contracts, when you process pay and leave.
  • Check payroll and leave records for errors and fix them.
  • Answer questions from staff and managers about leave and pay.
  • Track spending and supplies for the Local Funds program.
  • Help build weekly and monthly reports on Local Funds spending.
  • Check that pay comes out of the correct fund.
  • Complete other tasks as needed.

Who should apply? Those with:
Three years of fiscal record-keeping experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling three or more years.



Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities we are looking for
:
  • Payroll accuracy: Checks time and pay records closely so staff get paid the right amount.
  • Policy know how: Follows union contracts, agency rules, and state and federal law in daily work.
  • Basic accounting: Uses accounting steps to check payroll and spending records.
  • Problem solving: Finds errors, looks at the facts, and picks the right fix.
  • Data handling: Works with large amounts of payroll and spending data without mistakes.
  • Time management: Gets tasks done in order and meets tight payroll deadlines.
  • Clear communication: Explains payroll and leave steps in plain terms to staff and managers.
  • Computer skills: Uses HRMS, the Leave Tracker system, and Microsoft Office each day.
