Summary

Journey-level IT Application Developer at Washington State DSHS maintaining financial applications (accounting, budgeting) and updating them for the One Washington initiative and Workday transition. Daily work involves Java/C#/.NET coding, SQL Server work, Agile cycles, troubleshooting, and peer reviews in an on-site Olympia role.

Description

Financial systems must keep working, even as the technology behind them changes.

As an IT Application Developer with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), you'll update financial applications to support Washington's One Washington initiative and the transition to Workday. These systems support accounting, budgeting, and financial operations that help DSHS serve Washington residents.

You won't be expected to learn these systems alone.

You'll work alongside senior developers to understand requirements, design solutions, write code, and test changes. Your week will include Agile development cycles, troubleshooting, peer reviews, and collaboration with business and technical teams.

We encourage you to apply if you enjoy solving technical problems, can explain your design decisions, and welcome feedback. You understand that reliable software depends on both sound code and a clear understanding of business needs.

Your first 90 days are about learning the applications, development tools, and business processes. You'll review existing code, work with senior developers, and begin contributing changes.

Within your first year, success means you can develop, test, and implement changes that support the One Washington transition.

The opportunity comes with a defined timeline.

There are two one-year project positions, with possible extensions dependent on additional funding. You'll work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with at least two days each week at Office Building 2 during your first three months. No additional travel is expected. The Olympia area offers access to South Puget Sound, parks, and trails, although wet winters and commuting conditions are worth considering.
