DWM Workers' Compensation Administrator

General Description and Classification Standards:
The purpose of the Workers’ Compensation Administrator position is to perform under general direction, timely processing of departmental reported on-the-job injuries. Review injury/accident reports to determine accuracy and completeness and to ensure adequate investigation(s). Ensures that the Department of Watershed Management follows applicable laws and regulations. Assist with providing WC training and guidance to DWM employees.
Supervision Received:
This position will report to the Deputy Commissioner of Administration, Department of Watershed Management or designee. May work independently or as part of a team that meets to discuss issues related to learning methodologies, workers’ compensation, safety, emergency mitigation, policy, and operations. Direction received is very general, focuses on strategic objectives and is typically collaborative in nature.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains confidentially, discretion, and HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) at all times.
Performs timely review and response of reported injuries/accidents to ensure receipt of required documents to provide care to the injured worker. (Respond upon receipt of notification of injury/accident)
Reply timely to all employee questions and inquiries regarding their claims. (Within 2 hours)
Educates employees about workers’ compensation procedures and policies.
Maintains communication with the injured worker from injury to return to duty.
Compiles facts and data regarding injury/accident reports and filed cases.
Prepares required documentation to submit to payroll, HR, supervisors, managers, directors, etc.
When needed assists departments in conducting investigation of injury/accident reports, including acquiring witnesses statements and procurement of relevant documentation.
Review accident/injury reports to identify patterns.
Coordinates as needed with the city’s third-party administrator payment of medical bills.
Ensures clarity regarding work restrictions for every injured worker.
Assists employees when needed with completion of Treatment Authorization Form and contacting the city’s third-party-administrator to file a claim.
Maintains files of subrogation records for incidents involving third parties.
Maintains files for injured workers settlements.
Documents telephone conversations, witness statements, medical status reports, and accident investigation results (alcohol/drug test results, police reports).
Create workers’ compensation reports for dissemination.
Attends seminars, conducts research to keep abreast of CoA, state or industry changes.

Working knowledge of the State of Georgia Workers’ Compensation laws and requirements

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a professional office setting with regular computer use and occasional field or site visits, meetings, and trainings as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience -
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, HR, Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Emergency Management or related field (Additional years of experience may be considered as a substitute for the required degree on an exceptional basis, with a minimum of seven (7) years of professionally related experience under Workers’ Compensation Administrator.
3 years progressively responsible experience.
Licensures and Certifications - Valid Georgia Driver’s License

Lifting Requirements:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work Schedule:
This position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
