The Hockomock Area YMCA is seeking dependable, alert, and customer-focused Lifeguards to help open our aquatics center and provide a safe, welcoming environment for members each morning. This schedule offers consistent weekday hours with opportunities to pick up additional shifts. Every day, you'll play an important role in protecting lives, building relationships, and helping our community enjoy the Y safely.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area to ensure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, meeting YMCA response standards.
  • Prevent accidents by enforcing pool rules in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Keep rescue equipment ready and perform safety checks.
  • Conduct swim tests, assist with chemical testing, and help maintain a clean, organized aquatic facility.
  • Welcome members, answer questions, and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Demonstrate the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in every interaction.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and meet all eligibility requirements for lifeguard certification.
  • Current Lifeguard certification from the YMCA, American Red Cross, or another nationally recognized certifying organization (including waterfront/open water certification if required for assigned duties).
  • Current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration from a nationally recognized certifying organization.
  • Ability to remain calm, confident, and effective during emergency situations.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with the ability to respond quickly under pressure.
  • Positive, friendly, and professional demeanor with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of maturity, responsibility, and sound judgment appropriate for ensuring the safety of others.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain focus during extended periods of active surveillance.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Commitment to attending required trainings and maintaining all required certifications throughout employment.
