Early-Stage PHP Backend Engineer (Dubai)
Summary
Ocean Consulting Services is hiring one of the first PHP backend engineers for its new Dubai office to build and maintain backend APIs, MySQL databases, and internal product systems, using AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot as part of daily development.
Ocean Consulting Services is building its Dubai technology team, and we are looking for a PHP Developer to join as one of the first engineers in the office.
This role is focused on developing and improving the company’s core backend infrastructure and internal product systems.
For the first people joining, this is an opportunity to have a real impact on building the foundation of a new technology team in Dubai, as part of a distributed technology organization working across regions.
What you will do:
- Develop and maintain backend APIs using PHP.
- Work with MySQL databases, including database design, queries, and performance-related issues.
- Work with AI-assisted development tools as part of the daily development process.
- Troubleshoot production issues and support existing systems.
- Work closely with the engineering team on product and infrastructure needs.
What we are looking for:
- Strong hands-on experience with PHP.
- Experience with MySQL.
- Experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools.
- Experience working with Linux.
- Ability to work with databases and understand system flows.
- Practical problem-solving skills.
- Independent working style and good communication.
Nice to have:
- Experience working with production systems.
- Experience with internal tools, backend infrastructure, or performance/debugging tasks.
