Summary

Quality supervisor at Ford leading warranty and customer quality for its Electronics Platforms: monitoring 0/1/3-MIS warranty performance, driving Field Service Actions, and cutting warranty spend via disciplined root-cause problem solving (8D, 5-Why, Pareto, statistical analysis) across cross-functional teams.

The Quality Supervisor – Electronics Platforms Warranty & Customer Quality is responsible for leading the identification, containment, root-cause resolution, and prevention of warranty and customer quality issues affecting electronic platforms.

This role will provide focused leadership on 0, 1, and 3-Months-in-Service (MIS) warranty performance, Field Service Actions, customer satisfaction concerns, and warranty spending reduction.

The supervisor will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Finance, and other stakeholders to drive rapid problem resolution and prevent recurrence.

A key focus of the position is converting warranty and customer data into clear priorities, accountable actions, and measurable improvements in quality, customer satisfaction, and warranty cost.

Key Measures of Success

Performance should be evaluated through measures such as:

  • 0/1/3 MIS warranty performance
  • Warranty spending efficiency: CPR & Supplier Recovery Targets
  • Closure and recurrence of major warranty issues
  • Field Service Action execution and effectiveness
  • Speed from issue detection to containment: Time to Detect and Time to Resolve issues
  • Effectiveness of preventive actions and lessons learned

Early Warranty Quality: 0, 1 and 3 MIS

  • Lead Electronics Platforms warranty performance for 0, 1 and 3 Months in Service, with emphasis on early identification of emerging issues.
  • Monitor warranty trends, failure modes, repair information, customer symptoms, and other available field data to identify emerging concerns.
  • Establish priorities based on customer impact, occurrence, severity, trend, and financial exposure.
  • Lead cross-functional reviews of significant warranty issues and ensure clear ownership, timing, containment, root cause, and permanent corrective actions.
  • Drive lessons learned back into product development, validation, manufacturing, and supplier processes to prevent recurrence.

Field Service Actions

  • Lead Electronics Platforms quality activities associated with Field Service Actions.
  • Coordinate technical investigation, issue definition, affected population analysis, containment, corrective actions, and implementation readiness with the appropriate functional teams.
  • Ensure field concerns have appropriate technical evidence, disciplined problem solving, and clear closure criteria.
  • Monitor actions after implementation to verify effectiveness and prevent repeat concerns.

Warranty Spending Reduction

  • Lead actions to reduce Electronics Platforms warranty spending through identification and prioritization of major warranty cost drivers.
  • Develop a warranty cost reduction pipeline with accountable owners, actions, timing, and expected benefits.
  • Challenge teams to address both technical root causes and the factors driving repair/replacement cost.
  • Partner with Engineering, Service, Purchasing, Finance, Manufacturing, and suppliers to pursue cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Track implemented actions to verify that expected warranty improvements and spending reductions are being realized.

Problem Solving & Quality Leadership

  • Drive disciplined problem solving for significant warranty and customer quality issues using appropriate methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa/fishbone analysis, fault-tree analysis, Pareto analysis, and statistical data analysis.
  • Ensure actions address true root causes rather than symptoms.
  • Escalate issues when progress, technical resolution, containment, or ownership does not meet business needs.
  • Identify common failure mechanisms and systemic weaknesses across multiple electronic platforms.
  • Drive prevention and institutionalization of lessons learned.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in automotive electronics, electrical systems, product engineering, manufacturing, service, or quality.
  • Demonstrated experience solving complex product or field-quality problems.
  • Experience with warranty data, field-performance analysis, or customer quality concerns.
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive actions without relying solely on direct authority.
  • Strong written, verbal, and executive-level communication skills.
  • Ability to convert large amounts of technical and warranty information into clear priorities and actionable plans.

Preferred

  • Experience with automotive electronic modules, electrical architectures, connectivity, infotainment, controls, power electronics, or related vehicle electronic systems.
  • Experience with warranty cost analysis and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Experience supporting Field Service Actions or similar field-quality campaigns.
  • Working knowledge of 8D, FMEA, Design Verification, Statistical Process Control, Pareto analysis, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience working across Product Development, Manufacturing, Suppliers, Service, and Finance.

Leadership Expectations

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Own the problem through closure, not simply track actions.
  • Maintain a strong customer-first mindset.
  • Use data to establish priorities and challenge assumptions.
  • Create urgency around emerging field and warranty concerns.
  • Hold cross-functional teams accountable for commitments.
  • Balance quality, customer satisfaction, technical risk, and warranty cost.
  • Identify systemic opportunities rather than treating each warranty issue independently.
  • Communicate complex technical issues simply and effectively to senior leadership.
