ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Mentor/Coach:

1. Observation of classrooms on a regular basis and modeling appropriate classroom practices, within the context of the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and Head Start Performance Standards, is an integral part of our program goals. Submit documentation of on-site center visits on a monthly basis to the Child Health & Education Director.

3. Using the Practice Based Coaching Model the mentor will be responsible for supporting and engaging program staff.

4. Ensure that coaching practices reflect developmentally appropriate teaching practice.

5. Recognize existing strengths of staff and build positive, reflective mentor-coaching relationships.

6. Provide guidance, feedback and support for staff by communicating regularly with them by phone and in person of assigned centers.

7. Plan and conduct monthly individual or group reflective conferences/meetings that focus on goals. Activities may include but are not limited to prior observations, classroom modeling, videotaping, and providing resources.

8. Distribute the Teacher’s Needs Assessment for Teaching Practices in August.

9. Review previous year’s classroom data (Frogstreet, Current Curriculum Tool, CLASS, Mental Health Observations, etc.) to determine strategic planning for upcoming program year.

10. Utilize the Action Planning Step as the tool to formulate steps in goal planning for your assigned sites.

11. Complete Mentor/Coach Interaction and Observation Log and submit a copy to the Child Health and Education Director.

12. Complete the Center Mentor/Coaching Monthly Checklists and submit a copy to the Child Health and Education Director.

13. Center visits reports and are used to relay information to the Child Health and Education Director concerning observations made in classrooms and can be shared with classroom staff and Education Supervising Manager.

14. Complete the CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) observation instrument in November and March for assigned centers and may assist in the implementation of a classroom plan for the observed centers.

15. Work in conjunction with the Education Supervising Managers and management team to develop workshop agendas, making sure that the content meets the needs and level of understanding of the participants. Collaboratively complete workshop assignments, room set-up, displays, audio visuals, etc.

16. Education Managers must communicate with their Education Management team to discuss progress and any related concerns with assigned centers.

17. Attend and participate in Policy Council meetings, when assigned.

18. Assist in determining that program resources reflect the multi-cultural diversity of the community in conjunction with the Education Supervising Manager and the management team.

19. Assist with the Head Start T/TA plan in cooperation with other coordinating staff.

20. Maintain confidentiality in all areas.

21. Adhere to the OHCAC Personnel Policies and Procedures and other approved policies.

22. Recruit, interview and recommend for hire qualified education staff (Teachers, Associate Teachers, and on-call staff).

23. Facilitate, organize and participate in collaborations with community, schools and agencies, attending regular meetings with administration and staff of collaborative sites.

24. Promote a positive environment and positive relationship with community, staff, parents and children of assigned centers. Promote Head Start in a positive way in the community and recruit families throughout the year.

25. Assist staff in obtaining and maintaining their CDA for education staff for assigned centers in conjunction with the Education Supervising Manager.

26. Monitor and observe the implementation of Creative Curriculum or the agreed upon collaborative curriculum for assigned centers in conjunction with the Education Supervising Manager.

27. Analyze group and individual issues affecting the implementation of the Frogstreet Curriculum System for assigned centers in conjunction with the Education Supervising Manager. Share the findings, approach and solutions with the Child Health & Education Director.

28. Assist as needed with the Frogstreet Curriculum and any Education Binder training sections of the Area Orientation in conjunction with the Education Supervising Manager.

29. Work in conjunction with the Education Supervising Manager in the development of a training plan for assigned classrooms utilizing the results from the current Curriculum Assessment Tool, CLASS observations and other classroom observations and assessments in order to improve children’s outcomes.

30. Submit all memos, newsletters, and forms intended for staff, parents, and the community through the approval process as stated in OHCAC policies and procedures.

31. Work in cooperation with all Head Start Managers, documenting and making referrals when necessary and/or required.

32. Assist with the update of the written education plan annually.

33. Analyze training evaluations and personal attitude, style, and interpersonal relationships to foster self-assurance, growth and effectiveness in training peers and others in conjunction with the Education Supervising Managers.

34. Provide training and support to other staff and parents, as needs are determined and work in conjunction with other areas to collaborate and provide training in conjunction with the Education Supervising Manager.

35. Participate in the Annual Self-Assessment and on-site federal review.

36. Participate on the School Readiness Team and on the Parent, Family, and Community

Engagement (PFCE) team.

37. Check mailboxes and emails daily.

38. Complete and disperse appropriate paperwork within required timeframe.

39. Follow the Agency’s Code of Conduct and all applicable Head Start policies and procedures as outlined in the Family and Employee Handbook.

40. Assist in operation of the center in full compliance with the Ohio Heartland CAC Head Start Child Positive Behavior Support Policy that prohibits corporal punishment and provide continuous safety precautions by using Active Supervision.

41. Wear the monitoring safety Smart badge, Vocera, at all times to recognize if they are feeling overwhelmed with a child or situation to call for assistance from their building team.

Administrative:

1. Remain current on policies, procedures and activities of Ohio Heartland Head Start and the

Ohio Department of Children and Youth Licensing Rules. Acquire and utilize information on new developments and approaches in the early childhood education field and in Frogstreet Curriculum. Attend educational opportunities for personal and professional growth when possible.

2. Report any cases of suspected child neglect or abuse to Children Services, keeping the Social

Service area staff, Education Supervising Manager, and the Intervention Manager advised of any reported or suspected concerns.

3. Assist in operation of the center in full compliance with the Ohio Heartland CAC Head Start

Child Positive Behavior Support Policy that prohibits corporal punishment.

4. Complete in a timely manner necessary staff input evaluations for Teachers, Associate

Teachers and on-call staff, as requested by the Education Supervising Manager.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist in the classroom, screening or other needed areas as required by the Director. This includes using personal car for work-related errands including transport of food.

2. Complete and update first aid, communicable disease, CPR, OSHA regulations, child abuse and other training deemed necessary by the program administration.

3. Assist in needed areas as required by the Child Health and Education Director.

4. Communicate with coordinating staff to solve problems and keep informed and updated about program concerns.

5. Attend non-required training, workshops, and other educational opportunities, if possible, for personal and professional development.

6. Perform any duty as assigned in order to meet or stay in compliance with state and/or federal regulations.

7. Transfer of site assignment when necessary for the operation of the program when management finds it appropriate.

8. Will be required with prior notice to work flexible hours outside the normal 8: 00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. workday on occasion in order to adhere to and stay in compliance with the regulations stated within the Head Start Performance Standards.

9. Actively promote agency programs and assist families.

10. Participate in a team process both within the department and the corporation.

11. Attend internal and external meetings, representing the agency in external meetings as

required.

12. Maintain a safe driving record and have reliable transportation.

13. Out-of-town travel with occasional overnight stays.

14. Availability to work in excess of 37.5 hours per week in order to fulfill position requirements.

15. Adhere to all OHCAC Personnel Policies and Procedures and all written agency policies.

16. Drug and alcohol testing to be conducted as required by OHCAC and licensing.

17. State and federal criminal checks to be conducted as required by licensing and OHCAC.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

1. The Education Mentor/Coach Manager is accountable to the Child Health and Education Director.

2. Ensure developmentally appropriate practice in all phases and areas of the Head Start program operation are adhered to in assigned centers.

3. The Education Mentor/Coach Manager is accountable for all Head Start Performance Standards, Ohio Department of Children and Youth Licensing Rules and the safety of children at all times.

4. Required to have Time & Mileage entered and submitted electronically on a weekly basis according to your supervisor’s schedule.

5. Obtain approval for absences, late arrivals and early departures directly from the Child Health and Education Director. When absence is necessary, you must notify supervisor at least one hour prior to scheduled work time.

6. Lunch hour must be observed unless you are used to maintain staff ratio in a classroom or on a bus or attending required meetings or workshops and receive prior approval.

7. Video and audio recordings will be made during Head Start activities and observations and will be used for public relations, professional development, training and/or possible disciplinary action.

1. A Baccalaureate or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Baccalaureate or Advanced Degree and Coursework Equivalent to a Major Relating to Early Childhood Education, with Experience Teaching Preschool- Age Children.

2. Head Start experience or experience in an organized early childhood program preferred.

3. Must show courtesy and respect to staff and customers at all times.

4. Ability to perform job-related functions as requested by the supervisor.

5. Must possess technical skills to be able to use a variety of computer software, produce correspondence, forms and reports, preferred.

6. Must respect and maintain absolute confidentiality.

7. Must be able to work independently with initiative, creativity, accuracy, without constant supervision and confidentiality.

8. Must be flexible, able to work with a diverse population and have good organizational skills.

9. Fluent knowledge of the English language – both verbal and written. Acceptable communication skills and technical skills in order to perform duties to the fullest.

10. Computer skills required.

11. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals preferred.

12. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and/or percentage preferred.

13. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

14. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; hear; and smell. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to move quickly to retrieve a running child.

15. The employee is occasionally required to climb or to balance.

16. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

17. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

18. Must be able to clearly see the entire classroom.

19. Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License or be able to obtain one before the first day of employment, carry auto insurance and have ready access to a drivable vehicle. Must be willing to travel within all four counties and use personal car for work-related errands including transport of food.

20. Must pass the requirements of the insurance company in regard to age (18) and driving record.
