Education Outreach Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Education Outreach Associate supports the Autry’s education outreach initiatives, including a range of off-site teaching projects and programs. In this position, the Education Outreach Coordinator serves as an instructor in the classroom and plays a critical role in building and maintaining relationships with classroom teachers and administrators in partner schools. Working closely with the Manager, Education Outreach, this position plays an important part in the development and implementation of project-based learning curriculum and programming for outreach programs, as well as the planning and development of new programming. They also assist with on-site and off-site events, including student exhibition openings, which are a part of the Education Department’s off-site partnerships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide office support on numerous projects and initiatives
  • Develop curriculum for, and teach Autry programs at partner schools and at other sites (including at the museum) as needed
  • Assist in day-of aspects of the Autry Student Visual Arts Exhibition
  • Help develop curriculum as needed

OTHER FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education, history, arts education, art history, museum studies, or related field
  • Experience designing curriculum for K-12 classrooms using state frameworks and content standards
  • 1–3 Experience teaching in K-12 classrooms with object and project-based frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of the history of the American West
  • Basic understanding of educational theories or techniques, age/grade characteristics, and/or child developmental stages
  • Enthusiasm for and basic experience teaching in diverse settings
  • Effective computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Ability to coordinate and organize a variety of museum events (with supervision and assistance)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Creativity and flexibility
  • Strong interpersonal skills and detail-oriented
  • Access to reliable transportation

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a support position that requires a great deal of mobility, spending a great deal of time on his/her feet. May occasionally need to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and push and pull up to 75 lbs. with the assistance of a cart. Occasionally, must climb a 6-foot ladder to retrieve educational supplies from storage. Frequent repetitive finger movement is required for computer work. The employee will occasionally be required to drive a vehicle to attend to museum business outside of the museum.

Requires the use of a computer, physical mobility, and stamina. Involves long periods of standing, walking, or sitting; frequent stooping, and bending. Some evening and weekend work required.
