Education Specialist

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, Undersecretary for Museums and Culture.

The Education Specialist is responsible for overseeing the planning and direction of education programs at CFCH, developing and delivering engaging and relevant educational content for prek-12 educators and their students, such as digital and in-person teacher professional development orkshops, digital lesson plans and classroom resources, establishing and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders external and internal, and supervising education program staff and contractors. In this position, you will: Plan and produce sophisticated educational programs for pre-K through 12, and informal education in various settings, using learning theory and teaching methods such as inquiry, role playing, and use of primary sources. These are used in designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and in developing original materials, including presentations, web resources, and printed materials. Provide vision, leadership, and strategies for the management of educational services including the development and delivery of engaging and relevant content for prek-12 educators and their students, such as curriculums, digital lesson plans, in-person and digital professional development workshops. Use techniques, such arts integration, place-based learning, and project-based learning to promote and expand the visibility and use of CFCH content in a variety of formal and informal learning environments. Supervises staff.
