Role Purpose
The Credit Controller is responsible for leading the day-to-day credit control activities of the business, ensuring the timely collection of customer payments, effective management of customer accounts, and maintenance of accurate accounts receivable records. This role supports cash flow performance through proactive debt collection, cash allocation, credit risk management, and customer query resolution.


The Credit Controller works closely with customers, operational teams, commercial teams, and Finance colleagues to maintain strong customer relationships, reduce aged debt, improve DSO performance, and ensure adherence to agreed credit terms. The role maintains robust control over customer accounts, credit limits, and collection processes, ensuring compliance with company policies, internal controls, and SOX requirements.


The Credit Controller contributes to working capital improvement by driving cash collections, monitoring debtor performance, identifying credit risks, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the accounts receivable function. Through effective communication, strong financial discipline, and a customer-focused approach, the role plays an important part in protecting cash flow and supporting the financial performance of the business.
Key Responsibilities


Credit Control & Collections
• Manage the collection of outstanding debts across the Eastern Hemisphere in line with company credit terms.
• Proactively contact customers regarding overdue balances and agree appropriate payment plans where required.
• Drive cash collection performance and support the achievement of working capital targets.
• Monitor aged debt and escalate issues to management where necessary.
• Coordinate and manage debt recovery activity, including legal escalation where appropriate.
Accounts Receivable Management
• Maintain accurate customer ledgers and ensure all cash receipts are allocated promptly and accurately.
• Investigate and resolve account discrepancies and unallocated cash items.
• Support month-end processes relating to accounts receivable and debt reporting.
• Ensure customer master data is accurate and maintained appropriately.

Credit Risk & Governance
• Review and establish new customer accounts in line with company policies and procedures.
• Involvement in customer creditworthiness and recommend appropriate credit limits.
• Monitor credit risk exposure and communicate emerging concerns to management.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and SOX requirements.
• Maintain documentation and audit trails supporting credit control activities.
Stakeholder & Customer Management
• Build effective working relationships with customers to support timely payment and dispute resolution.
• Partner with operational, commercial, and finance teams to resolve customer queries and remove barriers to payment.
• Communicate overdue debt positions and required actions to relevant stakeholders.
• Issue and maintain “On Stop” and “Cash Only” customer listings where required.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement
• Monitor and report on cash collections, DSO performance, and debtor ageing.
• Support cash flow forecasting through accurate reporting of expected customer receipts.
• Identify opportunities to improve credit control processes, reporting, and operational efficiency.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the Finance function.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
• Previous experience within Credit Control or Accounts Receivable.
• Good understanding of credit control principles and general accounting processes.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience using ERP or accounting systems.


Desirable
• Experience working within a multinational or multi-site business environment.
• Experience operating within a SOX controlled environment.
• Knowledge of credit risk assessment and credit agency reporting tools.
• AAT qualification or equivalent finance qualification.
