The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer applies engineering principles to strengthen the safety, health, and environmental performance of the organization. This role focuses on evaluating hazards, designing engineered controls, and improving processes to reduce operational risks. By analyzing equipment, workflows, and system performance, the EHS Engineer helps ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and internal EHS standards while enhancing the overall reliability and safety of operations.
Success in this role requires strong technical expertise paired with a proactive risk assessment, root cause and failure analysis, and solution driven mindset. The EHS Engineer identifies- opportunities for continuous improvement, develops practical risk mitigation strategies, and collaborates closely with the cross functional teams to embed safe design concepts into both new and existing systems. The work supports long-term operational resilience by delivering sustainable, data informed safety solutions that drive meaningful reductions in risk & become champion of our BSAFE program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct engineering-based hazard analyses (PHA, FMEA, and machine risk assessments).
- Evaluate, design, and implement engineering controls such as ventilation systems, machine guarding, interlocks, and ergonomic solutions.
- Review new equipment, process changes, and capital projects designs for safety and environmental impacts and drive down the identified risks.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, safety specifications, and equipment standards.
- Lead investigations involving technical root causes and recommend long term engineering solutions using 8D/RCCA format.
- Analyze environmental and safety data to identify trends and develop system-level improvements. Publish KPIs to maintain a sharp focus on the site’s targets.
- Collaborate closely with operations, R&D, maintenance, and project engineering teams to integrate EHS into project lifecycles.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and applicable industry standards & regulatory license and permits in wastewater, air quality, universal waste and hazardous materials handling, storage & disposition.
- Develop parts and equipment specific safety training content and setup and / or conduct training sessions as needed.
- Perform regular EHS audits and monitor critical parameters on air, water, near misses, lost time incidents etc in order to proactively address risks for a safe working environment.
