EHS Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to provide leadership and technical expertise in maintaining compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations across a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will drive EHS initiatives, process safety management programmes, incident investigations, risk assessments, regulatory compliance activities, and continuous improvement projects to ensure a safe workplace while supporting operational excellence.

Location: Tuas, Singapore

Duration: 12 Months

Key Responsibilities:

EHS Compliance & Governance

  • Provide direction and guidance to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health and safety regulations, corporate standards, and site procedures.
  • Develop, implement, revise and maintain EHS policies, procedures and programmes to support regulatory and corporate compliance.
  • Act as the primary liaison during regulatory inspections and audits, coordinating responses and follow-up actions.

Process Safety Management

  • Implement and maintain Chemical Process Safety and Process Safety Management (PSM) programmes.
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (HAZOP, FMEA) and risk assessments for new processes, equipment and operational changes.
  • Evaluate engineering controls and safety systems, including relief valves, flame arresters, explosion relief panels and other process safety devices.

Risk Assessment & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead site-wide EHS self-assessments, inspections and risk assessments.
  • Identify, evaluate and mitigate workplace hazards through engineering, administrative and behavioural controls.
  • Recommend and support capital expenditure projects, maintenance programmes and operational improvements to strengthen EHS performance.

Incident Management

  • Lead investigations of safety, environmental, fire, spill and medical incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Track and verify completion of action items to prevent recurrence.

Training & Safety Culture

  • Develop and deliver EHS training programmes based on regulatory requirements, operational procedures and corporate standards.
  • Facilitate safety awareness initiatives and promote a proactive safety culture across the site.
  • Provide guidance and support to Safety Committees and cross-functional teams.

Occupational Health & Environmental Programmes

  • Support Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Management programmes.
  • Maintain compliance documentation, recordkeeping systems and regulatory reports.
  • Monitor environmental and workplace safety performance indicators and recommend improvements.

Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Safety, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of experience managing EHS programmes within manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, or related regulated industries.
  • Proven experience in regulatory compliance, risk assessment, incident investigation and EHS programme implementation.
  • Experience supporting process safety management activities in manufacturing operations.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, environmental regulations and workplace safety requirements.
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM), risk assessment methodologies and hazard analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial hygiene, occupational health and environmental compliance programmes.
  • Understanding of quality and regulatory requirements affecting pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing environments is advantageous.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology or chemical manufacturing facilities.
  • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP or FMEA facilitation experience.
  • Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) certification or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience managing regulatory inspections and external audits.
  • Knowledge of emergency response management and environmental control systems.
