EHS Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing activities of the occupational health and safety service within the meaning of the Regulation of Occupational Health and Safety Service in Portugal Lei nº 102/2009 September 10th for all Primark facilities.
- Carry out health & safety inspections as required by legislation, Primark company policy, identifying potential hazards and recommending appropriate remedial action where required; and review and complete PINS system.
- Conduct EHS inspections and audit workplace standards and activities as appropriate;
- Conduct risk assessments and emergency plans.
- To undertake investigations into specific incidents or accidents ensuring appropriate records are maintained, appropriate recommendations made and actions closed to reduce likelihood of reoccurrence;
- Relationship with employees’ representatives in EHS,
- Establish effective relationships and work closely and co-operatively with the retail team and other stakeholders;
- Have a thorough and detailed working knowledge of relevant current legislation and advice;
- Provide technical advice on all relevant environmental, health and safety issues to the stores;
- Secure the development of a positive health and safety culture at all levels throughout the business.
- Identify where poor practice, by individuals or a particular business unit, demands additional training or the provision of information to provide this required support;
- Drive forward, undertake or advise on workplace risk assessments and reviews in accordance with legislation or upon amended Primark policy, determining appropriate action and priorities;
- To conduct regular and periodic EHS inspections and audits against defined workplace standards and activities in designated locations to evaluate our performance;
- To drive a culture of behavioural safety across the country and to lead by example to ensure that safety becomes an integral part of everyday business;
- Advise on training needs for the business in line with regulatory requirements, business need or poor performance taking into account performance improvement and return on investment;
- Supports the delivery of EHS training across the organisation.
Relationships:
- Cooperation with the others departments and external supervisory and control bodies (ACT, DSG, ARS, ANPC),
- Establish effective EHS relationships and work closely and co-operatively with the retail team – within the region, at group level, and other stakeholders;
- Develop key relationships with Retail Store Management, Area Managers, Head of Sales, P&C, Store Development, FM, Learning & Development, Retail teams, and Legal teams.
- Work closely and support all other central functions as required on minimum EHS Standards; P&C, Store Development, FM, Learning & Development and Legal teams.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Técnico superior de segurança no trabalho (Nivel 6)
- Have a thorough and detailed knowledge of relevant current legislation and advice;
- Environmental knowledge and background is desirable.
- Total availability to travel around Portugal.
- Five years’ experience in health and safety.
- Communicative English language skills
- Experience in deal with unions, conduct risk assessments, emergency plans, H&S trainings.
- Thorough knowledge of, and ability to advise upon, environmental, health & safety matters, risk management and legislation, with substantial demonstrable experience of personal involvement in the management of EHS within a diverse fast paced work environment.
- Results orientated with a strong focus on the delivery of objectives, including an ability to provide creative and innovative solutions based on a sound understanding of business requirements.
- Provide effective verbal and written communication and feedback
- Systematic approach with good attention to detail.
- Interest in continuous improvement and development of new technologies
- An effective communicator with the ability to deliver complex messages in a clear and appropriate manner.
- Retail or FMCG's experience an advantage;
