Description

Power the future with EPSA

At Energy Power Systems Australia (EPSA), our team members work together to design, deliver and support the sustainable power solutions industries depend on.

From defence and data centres to mining operations, utilities and major infrastructure projects, the work we do keeps essential operations running.

As the Cat® engine dealer for Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, EPSA provides world-class power solutions backed by global innovation and local expertise.

If you're looking to contribute to something bigger and help shape what’s next, this is an opportunity to do meaningful work with real impact.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support the continued growth of EPSA’s Rental Solutions business.

Based in Mulgrave, VIC, you will design practical electrical solutions for temporary and rental power applications across Australia. Your work will support projects involving generator sets, transformers, LV distribution equipment, switchboards, cabling, protection systems and associated balance-of-plant equipment.

This is a hands-on engineering role that spans the full solution lifecycle. You will work from early technical enquiries and concept development through to detailed design, project execution, installation and commissioning support.

Rental power projects often move quickly. You may be supporting several enquiries and active projects at the same time, each with different site conditions, load requirements and delivery timeframes. You will need to turn sometimes incomplete information into safe, compliant and buildable electrical solutions while communicating assumptions, risks and technical requirements clearly.

You will work closely with Rental Sales, Project Managers, engineering specialists, suppliers, installation teams and Commissioning Technicians. You will also complete a structured handover with EPSA’s existing rental engineering specialist and initially work within an established peer-review and design-verification process.

This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of a growing engineering portfolio, build deeper capability within EPSA and help improve how rental power solutions are designed, documented and delivered.

Key responsibilities include

  • Design practical electrical solutions for temporary and rental power applications.

  • Prepare single-line diagrams, layouts, schedules and controlled engineering documentation using AutoCAD.

  • Complete load assessments, equipment selection and electrical calculations across generators, transformers, switchboards, cabling and protection systems.

  • Support Rental Sales with technical scoping, preliminary designs and engineering inputs for quotations and customer solutions.

  • Work closely with Project Managers, suppliers, installation teams and Commissioning Technicians to support delivery from concept through to commissioning.

  • Review supplier information and resolve technical queries, design issues and site-based changes.

  • Maintain accurate engineering records, including calculations, drawing revisions, technical deviations and as-built documentation.

  • Manage multiple, short-turnaround engineering priorities while maintaining safety, quality and compliance.

  • Help develop standard designs, templates and engineering practices that strengthen EPSA’s rental capability.

What you'll bring

We are looking for a practical Electrical Engineer who can turn customer and site requirements into safe, compliant and buildable power solutions.

You will be comfortable balancing technical detail with commercial and delivery priorities, communicating clearly with different stakeholders and knowing when a design decision or risk needs to be escalated.

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent recognised qualification.

  • At least three to five years of relevant electrical engineering or design experience.

  • Experience producing single-line diagrams, layouts, cable schedules and other electrical design documentation.

  • Practical capability in load assessment, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations and fault-level calculations.

  • Working knowledge of LV distribution, protection, earthing and applicable Australian electrical standards.

  • AutoCAD capability and experience working with controlled engineering drawings.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.

  • The ability to manage competing priorities without compromising safety or design quality.

  • A current Australian driver licence and ability to attend project sites occasionally.

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in power generation, generator systems, temporary power, rental power, mining, utilities or industrial infrastructure.

  • Experience working with generators, transformers, LV switchboards, protection equipment and associated balance-of-plant systems.

  • Exposure to tender support, equipment selection, supplier-document review or technical procurement.

  • Experience supporting installation, testing and commissioning activities.

  • Familiarity with power-system study software, Procore or comparable engineering and document-management systems.

  • Engineers Australia membership or relevant professional registration, or eligibility to obtain it.
