Position Summary
The Electrical Designer II develops complete electrical drawing packages for backup power systems and integrated PLC/control systems. This role requires extensive AutoCAD Electrical expertise, knowledge of ladder-logic-style PLC drawings and NEC requirements, and the ability to translate high-level engineering direction into accurate, coordinated, finished electrical packages with minimal drafting oversight. The designer works with engineering and manufacturing teams to support review, fabrication, wiring, and system integration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop complete electrical drawing packages for backup power systems and integrated PLC/control systems using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Translate high-level engineering direction, functional requirements, sketches, and equipment information into detailed drawings with minimal day-to-day drafting oversight; identify missing information and resolve questions with engineering.
  • Prepare power and control schematics, ladder-style PLC/control drawings, PLC I/O diagrams, panel layouts, terminal plans, wiring and interconnection diagrams, cable schedules, and bills of materials as required by each project.
  • Use AutoCAD Electrical project tools to manage symbols, component tags, wire numbering, cross-references, drawing organization, and reports consistently across the package.
  • Incorporate applicable National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and project standards into drawings, coordinating code-related design questions with engineering.
  • Coordinate electrical interfaces and component information with engineering, controls, and manufacturing teams to support fabrication, wiring, and system integration.
  • Review drawing packages for completeness, accuracy, and consistency; incorporate review comments, production redlines, and testing feedback, and maintain revision-controlled and as-built documentation.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), or a related technical field preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is a plus.
  • Extensive hands-on experience and advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, including project setup, schematic drafting, symbol libraries, component tagging, wire numbering, cross-references, and report generation.
  • Demonstrated ability to take high-level direction and independently develop a complete, accurate electrical drawing package through engineering review and final release.
  • Knowledge of ladder-logic-style PLC/control drawings, PLC I/O documentation, relay logic, and electrical wiring schematics.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the ability to apply relevant requirements to electrical drawings.
  • Ability to interpret engineering concepts, equipment specifications, and manufacturer documentation, with strong attention to detail, revision control, and communication.
  • Electrical design experience with backup power systems and integrated PLC/control systems, with a strong understanding of Solarcraft’s industry and the applications these systems support.
  • Knowledge of UL 508A and experience documenting industrial control panels to its requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with SOLIDWORKS Electrical preferred.
  • Relevant technical education, training, or practical experience in electrical design and drafting.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Computer-based electrical design and drafting, with regular collaboration with engineering, controls, and manufacturing teams.
  • Regular computer use and detailed review of electrical drawings and technical documentation.
