Electrical Designer

Position Summary

The Electrical Designer is responsible for developing high-quality electrical drawings, 3D models, and layout packages for industrial and commercial projects. The role requires strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, NEC standards, and construction practices. The designer collaborates with engineers, project managers, and other design disciplines to produce coordinated, code‑compliant deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical layouts, one‑line diagrams, wiring diagrams, grounding plans, lighting layouts, and panel schedules.
  • Develop conduit, cable tray, and equipment routing using 2D and 3D modeling tools.
  • Work with engineers to support load calculations, panel schedules, breaker sizing, and circuiting.
  • Translate engineering requirements into accurate and constructible drawings.
  • Coordinate electrical design with architectural, mechanical, structural, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Maintain accurate revision control and adhere to company drawing standards.
  • Assist with field verification, redlines, and as‑built documentation.
  • Generate electrical material takeoffs, device counts, and conduit/cable quantities.
  • Participate in BIM coordination using software such as Navisworks, Revit, or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and client standards.
  • Contribute to design review meetings and support constructability discussions.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of electrical design experience in industrial, commercial, or utility environments.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and/or Revit; experience with BIM preferred.
  • Working knowledge of power distribution, lighting systems, grounding, raceways, and control systems.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and other applicable electrical codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and vendor documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a multi‑disciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or technical certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, or similar field.
  • Experience working in industrial plants, oil & gas, manufacturing, or large commercial facilities.
  • Understanding of control panel layouts, instrumentation drawings, and PLC integration.
  • Familiarity with Navisworks, Revit MEP, or other 3D coordination tools.

Physical Requirements: Will regularly sit, use of hands/fingers, talk/hear. Will occasionally stand, walk, grasp, reach w/ hands/arms, bend/stoop/kneel/squat/crawl. Lift up to 10lbs. Near vision. Ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: Will regularly be in an office. For the most part, ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in typical office environment. Moderate noise level.
