Description

Design the control systems behind real production facilities.
Cortex is a full-discipline engineering, procurement, and construction management firm serving food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and heavy industrial clients. We're looking for a Controls Engineer to design and deliver electrical controls and instrumentation packages, from the drawing board to the plant floor.
What you'll do
  • Design control panels, electrical schematics, and networking details in AutoCAD
  • Develop, test, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programming
  • Research and analyze client requests, then help shape the right solution
  • Work alongside our electrical and mechanical engineers to design integrated systems
  • Take part in project planning, cost development, and scheduling
  • Talk directly with clients, vendors, and stakeholders
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems in the field, including on-site time in client facilities
What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering (or a related field)
  • 2+ years of experience in controls or instrumentation design
  • Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, and DCS system design
  • Understanding of control system networking and process control instrumentation
  • Ability to read and critically evaluate drawings, schematics, and system designs
  • Strong communication skills, since you'll work closely with both teammates and clients
  • Comfort managing tight deadlines without sacrificing quality
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam
Nice to have
  • Experience in a factory or manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with GMP environments
What to expect
  • Travel: 25-35%, with occasional embedded time at client sites, including active factory floors
  • A team that values collaboration and a chance to work across industries rather than on one product line
Why Cortex
  • Health coverage: Medical, dental, and vision plans for you and your family.
  • Financial protection: Company-paid life insurance, plus short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • Retirement: A 401(k) with an employer match.
  • Time off: Paid vacation and sick time.
  • Pet insurance: Coverage for your four-legged family members.
  • Variety of work: You'll work across food and beverage, chemical, pharma, manufacturing, and heavy industrial projects instead of being tied to one product line.
