Job Summary
Operating independently of day-to-day Senior Engineering oversight, the Electrical Engineer II owns the design, integration, optimization, and documentation of advanced industrial power generation systems from concept through production. This role carries full accountability for control system architecture, safety and protection analysis, code compliance, and field-testing and troubleshooting performance, and serves as the primary technical resource other engineers and technicians rely on. This role is ideal for an engineer ready to take full ownership of complex power systems, from high-level system design through final sign-off on PLC logic, protection schemes, and fault analysis, and to begin functioning as a subject-matter expert within the team.
Essential Duties
- Collaborate with R&D Team on new product functionality and requirements.
- Perform new circuit design from start to finish, including reliability, component selection, associated PLC logic, component orientation and mounting, schematics and wiring diagrams, and harness drawings.
- Assist in the development of manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications for electrical products.
- Evaluates electrical products, components, installation, and applications to ensure they meet specific standards and codes.
- Conducts performance, reliability, and compliance testing for all power solution systems.
- Assists with electrical equipment and process troubleshooting.
- Conduct fault current and arc flash analysis.
- Familiarity with PLC logic.
- Systems Design & Specification: Independently translates high-level project requirements into detailed electrical system designs, with final authority over component selection for compatibility, performance, and manufacturability.
- Control Systems Architecture: Owns the design, implementation, and documentation of complex control systems; develops, troubleshoots, and reviews PLC logic (and related programming languages), including work produced by Electrical Engineer I.
- Design Change Management: Owns and approves engineering design changes across new and legacy systems; administers version control and signs off on ECOs.
- Gives final review and approval on control schematics and harness drawings for production, including designs escalated from Electrical Engineer I.
- Project Management: Independently manages cross-departmental engineering projects, coordinating scope, timelines, and deliverables with production, procurement, quality, and field teams, driving new product and system upgrade initiatives from design through deployment.
- Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting: Leads end-to-end testing of new hardware and system upgrades; independently performs root-cause analysis on complex, system-level electrical failures in lab and field-installed environments.
- System Protection & Safety Analysis: Independently performs Fault Current Analysis and Short-Circuit Coordination Studies and finalizes breaker ratings and protection schemes, no longer requires Senior Engineering supervision.
- Grounding & Bonding Design: Independently specifies and approves grounding and bonding parameters for equipment and site-specific installations.
- Code Compliance & Standards: Ensures designs meet NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and site-specific code requirements; contributes to developing internal design standards.
- Cross-Functional Technical Liaison: Serves as the primary point of technical escalation for production and field teams on complex or cross-product issues, representing engineering without routine Senior Engineering involvement.
- Mentors and reviews the work of Electrical Engineer I staff on circuit design, PLC logic, and fault analysis.
