About the Role
The LV Electrical Engineering team is responsible for the design and delivery of low-voltage electrical distribution systems for Data Centre and mission-critical facilities.
Depending on seniority, the role will involve supporting or owning LV electrical design packages from concept through IFC and as-built, including power distribution, protection and coordination, equipment selection, BIM/MEP coordination, technical documentation, testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Design LV electrical distribution systems including:
- LV switchboards and distribution boards
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- UPS systems
- Standby generators/gensets
- PDUs
- Busbar systems
- Develop single-line diagrams, technical drawings, specifications, schedules and engineering documentation.
- Perform cable sizing, voltage drop and load-flow calculations.
- Perform protection and coordination studies and arc-flash assessments using ETAP or SKM PowerTools.
- Support or lead MEP/BIM coordination and clash detection using Navisworks.
- Coordinate LV containment with mechanical, structural and ELV systems.
- Develop and review LOD 400 models where applicable.
- Prepare/review RFIs, technical submittals and design packages.
- Coordinate with generator, UPS and switchgear vendors/OEMs.
- Support or lead testing, commissioning and integrated testing of LV systems.
- Ensure compliance with IEC 60364, IEC 61439, EN standards and Portugal's RTIEBT regime.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments and value-engineering/optimisation activities.
- Liaise with clients, vendors, certified electrical installers and relevant Portuguese authorities where required.
Experience Requirements
Junior LV Electrical Engineer
- 3–5 years of experience in LV electrical design, power distribution or MEP design.
- Experience preparing LV distribution layouts, cable sizing and technical drawings.
- AutoCAD Electrical proficiency.
- Working knowledge of Revit MEP and exposure to Navisworks.
- Basic understanding of protection and coordination concepts.
- Exposure to ETAP or SKM PowerTools is desirable.
Intermediate LV Electrical Engineer
- 5–10 years of experience in LV electrical design.
- Experience with mission-critical or Data Centre projects is preferred.
- Strong experience with LV distribution systems and electrical design packages.
- Experience with protection/coordination studies and arc-flash assessments.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP and Navisworks.
- Experience with ETAP or SKM PowerTools.
- Working knowledge of UPS, generators/gensets, busbars and switchgear.
- Strong knowledge of IEC/EN standards and Portugal's RTIEBT.
- Experience coordinating vendors, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ordem dos Engenheiros membership or progress toward membership is an advantage/relevant to the role.
Senior LV Electrical Engineer
- 10+ years of LV electrical engineering experience.
- Proven experience leading LV design for Data Centre / mission-critical facilities.
- Experience acting as technical authority and providing design sign-off.
- Advanced knowledge of protection, coordination and arc-flash studies.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, Navisworks and ETAP/SKM PowerTools.
- Expert knowledge of IEC 60364, IEC 61439, EN standards and RTIEBT.
- Strong understanding of UPS technologies, including Li-ion and VRLA, generators/gensets, MV/LV interfaces and switchgear.
- Experience with DGEG requirements and Portuguese electrical design responsibility.
- Proven experience with clients, authorities, vendors and OEMs.
- Strong leadership, mentoring and multidisciplinary coordination capabilities.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Master's Degree is an advantage, particularly for Intermediate/Senior positions.
- Relevant professional registration/certification in Portugal is an advantage.
