Electrical Safety Officer (SME1 - Nuclear Facilities)

Location: Los Alamos, NM | 100% Onsite (TA-51 / TA-55)

Compensation: $85/hr - $95/hr

Schedule: 4/10s (multiple shifts available, days/nights/weekends)

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required

Clearance: Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance required

Per Diem: Available for eligible candidates


IMPACT

The Electrical Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring safe execution of electrical work across high-consequence nuclear and construction environments at LANL. You will serve as the subject matter expert for electrical safety, directly influencing field operations, compliance, and hazard mitigation across multiple teams and projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary authority for electrical safety and administer the Electrical Safety Program
  • Support construction and field teams by ensuring proper implementation of electrical safe work practices
  • Conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Perform field inspections to identify and mitigate electrical hazards
  • Lead reviews of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Integrated Work Documents (IWDs)
  • Develop and improve electrical safety procedures, policies, and standards
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers, planners, and field personnel
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA, IEEE, and DOE standards
  • Evaluate systems and equipment for electrical safety compliance

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree plus 7 years of electrical field experience (or equivalent)
  • Deep knowledge of NFPA 70 / NFPA 70E (critical requirement)
  • Experience working in commercial, industrial, or DOE environments
  • Strong background in electrical inspections, hazard assessments, and code compliance
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly across teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training

PREFERRED BACKGROUND

  • DOE, NNSA, or nuclear facility experience
  • Licensed electrician (Inside Wireman, Journeyman, or similar)
  • Experience supporting construction or facility operations in regulated environments
  • Familiarity with low voltage AC/DC systems and industrial electrical applications

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • High-consequence nuclear facility setting (TA-51 / TA-55)
  • Field-based role with direct interaction with craft, engineers, and project teams
  • Rotating shifts may include days, nights, and weekends
  • Opportunity for long-term extension and potential conversion
