Contract for 24-Months-Possibility to Extend We are seeking an experienced Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a large-scale data center construction project. This role is responsible for providing technical leadership, field oversight, quality assurance, and issue resolution for critical electrical systems throughout construction, commissioning, and turnover.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on electrical expert who has been in the field, understands how complex electrical systems are built and commissioned, and can quickly identify risks before they become project delays. They are technically strong, practical, direct, and dependable. They understand the demands of data center construction and bring the grit needed to push issues to resolution while maintaining safety, quality, and professionalism.

This is a field-based role located on an active data center construction site. The position requires regular walking of the site, attending coordination meetings, reviewing field installations, supporting commissioning activities, and working closely with contractors and project stakeholders. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a high-pressure construction environment with aggressive schedules and strict safety and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the electrical technical expert for data center construction activities.
- Provide field oversight for installation of electrical infrastructure, including medium-voltage and high-voltage systems, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, PDUs, busway, grounding, lighting, controls, and related distribution equipment.
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, method statements, and contractor work plans for technical accuracy and constructability.
- Support coordination between the owner, general contractor, electrical contractor, engineers, vendors, commissioning agents, and operations teams.
- Identify and resolve electrical design, installation, and field coordination issues quickly and effectively.
- Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Participate in QA/QC inspections, punch walks, system testing, commissioning activities, and turnover documentation.
- Support energization planning, lockout/tagout coordination, commissioning sequences, and critical system startup activities.
- Track electrical issues, risks, constraints, and action items through resolution.
- Provide technical input during schedule reviews, construction planning meetings, and commissioning readiness reviews.
- Ensure work is completed safely, correctly, and in alignment with data center reliability requirements.
- Mentor field teams and provide practical guidance on complex electrical installations.
Required Qualifications
- Strong background in electrical construction, engineering, commissioning, or owner's representative work.
- Previous experience supporting data center construction projects is required.
- Hands-on knowledge of high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with mission-critical infrastructure, including switchgear, substations, transformers, generators, UPS systems, power distribution, grounding, and controls.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-lines, specifications, schematics, and equipment documentation.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes, safety practices, QA/QC requirements, and commissioning processes.
- Ability to identify field issues and drive practical solutions under schedule pressure.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across contractors, engineers, vendors, and owner teams.
- Must be highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-moving construction environment.
- Must have grit, urgency, and the ability to stay calm and effective when project conditions are challenging.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hyperscale or large colocation data center projects.
- Prior owner's representative, construction management, or commissioning experience.
- Familiarity with critical power redundancy designs such as N+1, 2N, distributed redundant, or similar configurations.
- Experience with commissioning levels, integrated systems testing, and energization procedures.
- Electrical license, engineering degree, NICET certification, commissioning certification, or similar technical credential preferred but not required
- OSHA 30 preferred
