Electrical Systems Engineer

Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Job Type: Full-Time
Starting Salary: $80,000/year (higher depending on experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, installation, and testing of electrical systems and controls. This position works closely with engineering and production teams to ensure equipment is properly built, tested, and ready for shipment.

Experience with power generation, electronic controls, and fuel-system integration is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Support electrical design, proposals, specifications, and NEC code compliance.
  • Read blueprints, layouts, schematics, and technical specifications to determine installation requirements.
  • Test and inspect completed equipment using drawings and specifications; identify and correct electrical issues.
  • Perform functional and indication testing using multimeters, ammeters, and other electronic test equipment.
  • Design and build control panels for basic electromechanical systems.
  • Perform basic programming of electrical equipment, including displays, sensors, and HMIs.
  • Calculate wiring and electrical equipment load requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to electricians and production employees on schematic reading, installation, testing, labeling, and safe work practices.
  • Establish consistent methods for electrical component layout and installation.
  • Coordinate electrical requirements for third-party materials and ensure project needs are understood and met.
  • Assist with resolving electrical discrepancies before equipment shipment.
  • Support cross-training and technical development of applicable production employees.
  • Travel to job sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, installing, and testing electrical equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC electricity and electrical theory.
  • Working knowledge of the current National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment and testing methods.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Experience designing and building control panels for electromechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of power-generation equipment, including:
    • Generators
    • Transformers
    • Switchboards
    • Controllers
    • Circuit breakers
    • Motors
    • Heating units
    • Conduit systems
    • Fuel-system integration experience is a plus.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and other teams.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

  • Work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Ability to travel between local facilities and job sites as needed.
  • Must maintain attention to detail while managing multiple priorities.
