Summary

An electrical designer in Egis' Distribution Design team produces detailed designs and documentation for overhead and underground electricity distribution lines (LV, HV and sub-transmission up to 66kV) across Victorian networks. Day to day involves drafting with tools like nPoles, Neara and AutoCAD, QA reviews, project management and mentoring junior staff.

As a member of our Distribution Design team, you will be responsible for delivering detailed design and documentation for a range of projects within the Energy sector.

As an Electrical Technical Officer/Designer you will be responsible for the design and drafting of Overhead and underground lines for Victorian electricity networks, including Low Voltage, High Voltage, and Sub-Transmission (up to 66kV).

Role responsibilities:

  • Undertaking design and drafting quality assurance reviews.
  • Approve/endorse standard designs and drawings.
  • Assume responsibility for management of small to medium-scale projects, or phases of larger-scale projects, including;
    • Owning lines design projects, including providing quality assurance reviews and approving/endorsing standard designs.
    • Producing or coordinating the production of tender documentation, design documentation/specifications and project deliverables within agreed project timeframes and budget;
    • Planning and managing resources assigned to the project;
    • Contribute to the training and development of technical resources engaged in project teams but providing technical leadership and advice;
    • Acting as project liaison for assigned phase/s of project;
    • Prepare client and project reports and be able to present on project status;
    • Financial Management of project and performance.
  • Operate autonomously on site and train/guide junior staff on overhead and underground lines surveying best practices.
  • Able to undertake overhead and underground lines design projects independently and mentor junior staff in design best practices.
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships by conducting all work in a professional and productive manner, servicing delivery by accurately identifying and understanding the client needs.
  • Collaborate and participate in bids/tenders, producing high-quality advice and documentation.
  • Develop, improve, and implement review mechanisms to capture and execute improvements to the quality of work produced.
  • Contribute to Safety in Design workshops and prepare supporting documentation to promote safe construction, operation and maintenance outcomes.
  • Actively participate in professional development and support the participation of others in ongoing professional development activity.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with regulatory, governance and quality requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in overhead lines survey, design and drafting.
  • Experience in underground lines survey, design and drafting is highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of Victorian distribution network and utility standards (AusNet, United Energy, CitiPower, Powercor, or Jemena).
  • Proficiency in Overhead lines design software including, nPoles and Neara.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
