Electrical Technician (Power Systems)
Summary
Maintains and repairs power systems, engines, and generators by installing electrical components, performing diagnostics, and conducting load tests in a hands-on technical role.
Responsibilities
- Select, use, and maintain various service tools correctly to complete job assignments
- Install electrical switches, sensors, transducers, transmitters, current transformers, alternator components, and control panels following technical specifications
- Install engine wiring according to provided drawings to ensure proper electrical connections
- Disassemble and assemble engine components such as oil pumps, water pumps, and cylinder heads for maintenance and repair
- Adjust engine valve lash to maintain engine performance and efficiency
- Assist and perform mechanical installation of radiator assemblies, couplings, engines, alternators, gearboxes, piping, and hoses
- Perform alignment of radiator assemblies, engines, and alternators to ensure proper mechanical fit and function
- Prepare generators for load testing to verify operational readiness
- Conduct safety device tests and load tests, accurately recording required parameter readings for compliance and diagnostics
- Connect ET diagnostic tools to engines to view diagnostic codes and events, and file data for maintenance records
- Troubleshoot engines and generators to identify and resolve operational issues promptly
- Perform general servicing on engines and alternators to maintain optimal performance
- Apply knowledge of Hydraulic Steering Systems, Marine Gearboxes, AC Power Alternators, alignment, control panels, and testing to support maintenance tasks (preferred)
- Utilize IT skills to support maintenance and diagnostic activities (preferred)
- Apply knowledge of Programmable Logic Control systems to enhance troubleshooting and maintenance (preferred)
Required competencies and certifications
- Possess an ITE certificate or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of relevant hands-on experience
- Electrical hands-on experience is essential to perform core duties
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Knowledge of Hydraulic Steering Systems, Marine Gearboxes, AC Power Alternators, alignment, control panels, and testing
- IT knowledge relevant to maintenance and diagnostics
- Programmable Logic Control knowledge
