Electronic Hardware Design Engineer (Contract)
Description
Job Description:
As a Senior Engineer, Electronics Hardware Design, you are a specialized technical expert focused on developing advanced electronic systems. Your primary responsibilities include circuit design, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout, and ensuring signal integrity, with a strong emphasis on power management optimization and Radio Frequency (RF) performance. You ensure seamless integration with software and mechanical systems to deliver high-performing, reliable, and compliant solutions. You apply cutting-edge simulation, modeling, and prototyping techniques to create robust and innovative hardware designs. Your technical expertise contributes to the development of products and technologies that address complex challenges and align with industry standards.
In this role, you exercise sound judgment in prioritizing work and making decisions, typically guided by precedent, best practices, and technical standards, with room for interpretation.
You provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, reviewing their work and offering direction on non-routine or escalated issues. Your contributions are reviewed for overall accuracy and quality. You collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure full system integration and product success. Your work directly enhances product functionality, reliability, and market competitiveness through continuous research, issue identification, and experimentation in the field of electronic hardware.
Field of work
· Take technical ownership of the design, development, verification, and lifecycle maintenance of industrial PLCs, smart relays, I/O modules, and associated products.
· Define and drive hardware system and module architecture, including MCU or processor platforms, memory, power supplies, industrial I/O, communication interfaces, isolation, protection, diagnostics, and hardware/firmware partitioning.
· Lead the design and verification of analog and digital circuits, relay and transistor outputs, signal-conditioning circuits, embedded interfaces, and industrial power-supply functions.
· Independently perform and review schematic design, component selection, design calculations, circuit simulation, PCB layout, prototype bring-up, and complex hardware troubleshooting.
· Establish hardware design requirements, verification strategies, test plans, and acceptance criteria covering functionality, performance, EMC, environmental reliability, thermal behavior, and product safety.
· Lead root-cause analysis of complex design, verification, production, and field issues, and drive robust corrective and preventive actions with cross-functional teams.
· Drive hardware and firmware integration, including clocks, reset, watchdog, boot, debug, memory, peripheral interfaces, diagnostics, and fault handling.
· Ensure designs comply with applicable industrial standards and engineering practices related to EMC, electrical safety, reliability, manufacturability, testability, and component lifecycle.
· Assess technical feasibility, hardware impact, and design risks for new features, architecture changes, component substitutions, and product improvements; define practical mitigation plans.
· Lead component qualification, second-source introduction, cost optimization, production support, certification activities, and sustaining-engineering initiatives while protecting product quality and compliance.
· Lead technical reviews and maintain high-quality engineering documentation, including architecture documents, schematics, BOMs, design calculations, test specifications, verification reports, risk assessments, and technical justifications.
· Provide technical direction and mentoring to less-experienced engineers, and collaborate effectively with multi-site R&D teams, industrialization, sourcing, quality, manufacturing, certification partners, and suppliers to deliver projects successfully.
Your profile
· Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
· Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in hardware architecture, design, development, verification, and lifecycle support of embedded electronic products; experience with industrial automation or control products is strongly preferred.
· Strong and broad knowledge of analog and digital electronics, circuit analysis, embedded hardware, power electronics, measurement techniques, and systematic troubleshooting.
· Proven experience defining embedded-system architecture, including MCU or processor selection, memory technologies, clocks, reset and watchdog circuits, boot and debug interfaces, peripheral buses, diagnostics, and hardware/firmware partitioning.
· Demonstrated ability to independently own complex hardware boards, modules, or major product functions from requirements and architecture through design, verification, certification, industrialization, and lifecycle support.
· Hands-on expertise in schematic design, PCB design and layout review, component selection, design calculations, circuit simulation, prototype bring-up, laboratory verification, and root-cause analysis.
· Solid experience with industrial digital and analog I/O, power-supply circuits, communication interfaces, isolation, protection, grounding, thermal design, and creepage and clearance requirements.
· Practical experience with embedded and industrial interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-485/Modbus, CAN, USB, UART, SPI, and I²C.
