Discussion
Diraq is redefining scalable quantum computing by enabling billions of qubits on a single chip—far beyond the hundreds available today—to unlock practical, commercial quantum applications. We are building a full-stack quantum computing company, delivering quantum hardware and software as a cloud-accessible service.

We are seeking an Electronics Engineer to support the development, integration and validation of advanced cryogenic test infrastructure used to evaluate next-generation quantum computing hardware.

This role combines electronic design, hardware integration, laboratory testing and systems engineering. You will design and maintain reliable, high-performance test platforms that enable the characterisation of quantum devices operating at cryogenic temperatures. Working within a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists and researchers, you will contribute to sophisticated measurement systems at the forefront of emerging quantum technologies.

Responsibilities

Electronic Design and Development
  • Design schematic circuits and printed circuit boards for cryogenic test systems, including signal routing, control electronics, signal conditioning, interface circuits and breakout hardware.
  • Develop wiring assemblies, cable harnesses, test fixtures, adapter boards and supporting laboratory infrastructure.
  • Select electronic components and contribute to hardware architecture decisions, considering performance, manufacturability, reliability and cost.

System Integration
  • Integrate electronic hardware with cryogenic platforms, laboratory instruments, device packages and software control systems.
  • Support system bring-up, configuration, commissioning and performance verification activities.
  • Collaborate with physicists, device engineers, mechanical engineers, software engineers and test engineers to deliver integrated cryogenic test capabilities.

Testing, Verification and Analysis
  • Plan and execute hardware verification, validation and characterisation activities for electronic subsystems and complete test platforms.
  • Develop test procedures and measurement methods to evaluate electrical performance, signal integrity, thermal behaviour and system reliability.
  • Analyse test data, identify performance limitations and provide practical recommendations for design and system improvement.
  • Communicate findings through clear technical reports, presentations and design recommendations.

Troubleshooting and Continuous Improvement
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and system-level issues using structured fault-finding and root-cause analysis methods.
  • Modify, optimise and improve existing test infrastructure as technical requirements evolve.
  • Support reliability investigations, engineering risk reduction and corrective actions.

Documentation and Quality
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, PCB design files, bills of materials, assembly instructions, test plans, test reports, operating procedures and engineering change records.
  • Define technical requirements and contribute to system architecture, interface definitions, design reviews, risk assessments and configuration control.

Hands-on Laboratory Work
  • Perform assembly, rework and prototyping activities, including soldering, cable assembly, connector installation, PCB modification and prototype construction.
  • Support safe, organised and effective laboratory operations and maintain test equipment and infrastructure.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in electronics design, hardware development, test engineering, or closely related engineering environments.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals, including analogue and digital electronics, circuit analysis, grounding, shielding, power distribution and measurement principles.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design using Altium Designer or an equivalent tool.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring up, test, debug and modify electronic hardware.
  • Experience using laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, vector network analysers, spectrum analysers, signal generators, source measure units and digital multimeters.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to systematically identify root causes across complex hardware systems.
  • Practical experience with soldering, PCB rework, cable assembly, connectors and prototype construction.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements definition, interface management, verification, validation and configuration control.
  • Ability to analyse measurement data and clearly communicate technical findings.
  • Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail.

Desirable Experience
  • Electronics or test infrastructure for cryogenic, quantum computing, semiconductor, RF, microwave or low-noise measurement applications.
  • Signal integrity, impedance-controlled PCB design, RF transmission lines, grounding, shielding, filtering and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Cryogenic design constraints, including thermal loading, material selection, thermal contraction, connector reliability and temperature-dependent electrical behaviour.
  • Automated test, data acquisition or data analysis using Python, MATLAB or similar tools.
  • Design for manufacture, component selection, supplier engagement and prototype production.
  • Engineering change control, document management and laboratory safety practices.

Personal Attributes
  • Practical and comfortable working directly with hardware in a laboratory environment.
  • Methodical and evidence-based when diagnosing technical issues.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and progress work with a high degree of ownership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative and comfortable working within a multidisciplinary engineering and scientific team.
  • Curious, adaptable and motivated to develop knowledge of cryogenic and quantum computing technologies.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge quantum hardware development
  • Collaborative environment with leading experts in quantum computing
  • Paid volunteer day to give back to a cause you care about
  • Eligibility to participate in our employee incentive program
  • Flexible working arrangements and supportive team culture
