Description

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Zenno develops the most powerful magnetic technologies for space. This is a new class of superconducting systems designed to power the next era of human expansion. Our belief is simple—stable and scalable infrastructure in space will rely on resources already present there.

Zenno is building that future by harnessing one of the fundamental forces of the universe, electromagnetism. Our superconducting technologies enable fuel-free spacecraft positioning, radiation shielding, and electromagnetic acceleration systems for defense, transportation, and industrial activity in space.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Zenno Astronautics is seeking an experienced Electronics Engineering Contractor to design, develop, test, and qualify electronics for spacecraft and other high-reliability systems.

The work is broad and may include motor controllers, embedded microcontroller systems, power electronics, analogue and digital sensing, communications, protection circuitry, and supporting test hardware.

We are looking for an intermediate/senior, hands-on engineer who can take ownership of hardware from requirements and architecture through schematic design, PCB development, prototype bring-up, testing, and qualification.

This is a full-time, 3-month contract role, working fully onsite in Onehunga, Auckland, five days per week for the full contract. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available. Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand for the full contract term. Employer sponsorship is not available.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

— Design and develop analogue, digital, embedded, and power electronics for spacecraft systems.

— Take hardware through schematic capture, PCB development, bring-up, debugging, verification, and qualification.

— Perform supporting engineering analysis such as worst-case analysis, derating, power budgeting, and design justification.

— Support radiation assessment, environmental testing, failure investigation, and cross-functional design reviews.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

— Strong professional experience in electronics design and hardware development.

— Solid fundamentals across analogue, digital, embedded, and power electronics.

— Practical experience with schematic capture, PCB design, EMC/EMI, laboratory debugging, and test equipment.

— Proven ability to take complex hardware from concept through prototype, test, and qualification.

— Experience in space, aerospace, defence, or another high-reliability industry is strongly preferred.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

Experience with radiation-tolerant electronics, TID/SEE analysis, motor or actuator control, high-current switching, DC/DC conversion, FPGA or microcontroller systems, spacecraft power systems, and environmental qualification would be highly regarded.

Familiarity with FMECA, FDIR, worst-case analysis, component derating, and relevant NASA, ESA, ECSS, MIL, or IPC standards is advantageous.
