Formlabs is hiring an onsite Embedded Software Intern (Somerville, MA, full-time Jan–Apr) to design, test, and ship C/C++ firmware for its 3D printers, working hands-on with hardware alongside electrical and systems engineers. Pay is bi-weekly at $3,700–$4,500 USD.

3D printing requires a complex interplay of software, hardware, and electronics – our embedded engineers are the critical component that ties these teams together. You’ll work closely with electrical engineers, systems engineers, and the rest of our software team to build, shape, and define our embedded systems.

Internship Term: Winter/Spring (January-April)
Commitment: Full-time
Location: Onsite in Somerville, MA
The Job
- Design and implement embedded software applications from inception to release
- Collaborate with a stellar team of multidisciplinary engineers to constantly enhance the user experience of our products
- Write and ship meaningful code that makes our custom hardware work, find the bugs, and ultimately push the limits of 3D printing
- "Day in the life" of the Embedded Software team here at HQ Somerville consists of writing code and tests (mostly in C++) for new features for our printers, as well as testing software-hardware integration by working hands-on with hardware. You will be part of a team writing software that is used by thousands of customers of Formlabs printers
- This role does not require previous 3D printing experience, but you should want to learn and do it!
You
- xperience working with embedded systems
- Passionate about firmware and embedded electronics
- Willing to work with C++ or C, comfortable working with Python
- Confident in writing, testing, and debugging low-level code (from microcontrollers to embedded Linux)
- Development experience in Unix/Linux and distros
- Love to work in a collaborative environment

Compensation
Interns at Formlabs are paid on a bi-weekly pay schedule. The pay range for this role will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization. This is a salaried role, so you will always be paid based on the assumed 40 hours per week as a full-time intern. This position does not offer housing or relocation assistance.
