Emergency Management Specialist
This position is located in Region 2. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate experience in conducting operational coordination of Emergency Support Functions, supporting immediate response operations, delivering emergency management training, evaluating plans and procedures, collaborating with partners and stakeholders, and engaging with leadership teams related to threats, hazards, and incidents, impacting or anticipated to impact an assigned area of responsibility.
What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will be supporting regional projects designed to improve operations, plans, and integration to ensures efficient and effective delivery of immediate emergency assistance to individuals and communities impacted and overwhelmed by these disasters, emergencies, or acts of terrorism. Typical assignments include: Functioning as an emergency manager or directly supports emergency management functions and participates regularly in efforts to exercise, validate, and execute emergency management capabilities, procedures, and functions. Building emergency management and support capabilities, as well as to maintain and ensure the readiness of such capabilities based on an analysis of risk and need and coordination with Federal, State, Local, Tribal, Territorial, nongovernmental organizations, and private sector partners across multiple functions, disciplines and mission areas. Performing as a spokesperson in conferences, meetings, committees, and working groups that support Region 2 disaster operations to promote and maintain a pro-active response posture. What else do I need to know? At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
