This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT is for Fee Basis Emergency Medicine Physician located at the Dallas VA Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Applicants will remain active for 3 months after initial application is received and/or updated. This is an intermittent Fee Basis appointment.

All staff members are assumed to be capable of providing care for a wide variety of patients with medical disorders and performing many simple procedures not requiring special delineation. Included are the performance of an appropriate history and physical, the planning of an appropriate diagnostic evaluation and the provision of indicated therapy and subsequent follow-up, including an assessment of the need for hospitalization versus outpatient care. It is also recognized that the practice standard may from time to time require consultation on complex problems and that, except in an emergency, staff members will not undertake procedures they are not qualified to perform. Emergency Medicine includes; Admitting privileges, history and physical, preparing treatment plans, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions of the following body systems: cardiovascular, circulatory, dermatologic, endocrine, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, hematological, hepatic, immunologic, infectious, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neurological, obstetric/gynecologic, ophthalmologic, pediatric, psychiatric, pulmonary, renal, rheumatologic; administration of parenteral fluids/medications/blood products, application of restraints, arterial blood gas sampling, cardiac pacemaker (external emergent or internal emergent), cardioversion electrical and chemical (emergent), cast/splint application, central intravenous access (subclavian, internal jugular, femoral), cleaning and dressing of wounds, cultures, debridement, defibrillation, direct indirect laryngoscopy, ECG interpretation, excision of minor skin lesions, foreign body removal, incision and drainage of superficial abscesses, inhalation therapy IPPB, emergent non-diagnostic x-ray interpretation, initial management of closed fractures and dislocations, intravenous catheterization, joint aspiration, local and regional anesthesia, lumbar puncture, nail trephination, nasal cauterization, nasal packing, nasogastric tube placement, needle thoracostomy, occult blood testing, orogastric tube placement, osteopathic manipulation by osteopathic physicians, oxygen administration, paracentesis, pericardiocentesis (emergent), phlebotomy, removal of nasal foreign body, stabilize and arrange transfer for trauma patients of various acuities, emergent OB GYN issues, emergency pediatric issues, and intracranial bleeds/problem unable to be cared for by this facility, recognize STEMI and activate Cardiac Cath Lab, recognize and manage acute stroke patient and be able to administer tPA, suturing of simple and intermediate lacerations, thoracentesis, tube thoracostomy, urethral catheterization, placement of intra-osseous line, and ventilator management Work Schedule: Intermittent, as needed.
