Emergency Room Technician
Summary
Provides direct patient care in an emergency room, assisting physicians and nurses while monitoring vital signs and reporting concerns under medical supervision.
Primary Purpose: To provide quality patient care by assisting the physician and/or registered nurse.
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: No formal policy setting responsibility.
Routine Decision Making: Determining when to report patient concerns, questions, abnormal tests/vital signs to the RN and determines appropriate supplies necessary to maintain patient care.
Formal Supervisory Responsibility: No formal supervisory responsibility.
Unusual Working Conditions: Risk of blood, body fluid contamination. Risk for injury from aggressive, combative or disoriented patients. Potential exposure to hazardous drugs and chemicals.
Age Specific Competencies: Provides care to neonates (birth to 6 weeks), infants (birth -2 years), children (2 yrs-12 yrs.), adolescent patients between 12 to 18 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
Population Specific Competencies: Recognizes the importance of diversity/cultural beliefs when delivering care to the populations served at Cass Regional.
