General Description:

The Food Services Employment Support Specialist coordinates various aspects of the employment process for new Food Service hires, and works closely with Human Resources (HR) Administrators on staffing needs. Contacts are regularly and frequently made at all organizational levels within and outside the school system to explain programs and policies and to recruit for new positions. Position requires professional judgment.

Job Description:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages the hiring process for school-based Food Service positions:

    • Screens all approved applications from Human Resources

    • Contacts selected applicants to schedule interviews

    • Participates in interview panels

    • Completes pre-employment processing for selected applicants

    • Assists applicants with online applications and tasks, as needed

  • Prepares and submit paperwork to Human Resources to process substitutes

  • Assists with the internal transfer process for Food and Nutrition Services employees

  • Provides employees with requested documentation, as appropriate

  • Monitors paperwork, online processes, and leave time to ensure procedures are properly followed

  • Attends and assists with Food Service Associate job fairs, as needed

  • Assists in providing documentation for Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) forms

  • May assist with training new and current employees, as well as substitutes

  • Assists with maintaining the Food and Nutrition Services employee handbook

  • Assists with maintaining the Food and Nutrition Services Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned

Budgetary Responsibility:

Assists with tracking the department’s United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Meals per Labor Hour (MPLH) metrics

Report Preparation:

Prepares reports related to monthly vacancy rates, as well as other related reports as requested

Equipment Operation:

General office equipment and other equipment related to the assigned area

Contacts:

This position has regular contact with current and potential applicants, HR staff, and Food and Nutrition Services staff.

Work Direction/Supervision:

This position does not supervise or provide work direction to others.

Decision Making:

This position performs the majority of functions independently, and seeks the supervisor's direction in unusual situations.

Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:

This position has no formal policy-setting responsibilities.

Physical Demands:

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 25 pounds. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Work Environment:

This position regularly works in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate. Local travel is required, and associated noise levels will vary.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Microsoft and Google suites of software, as well as internal applicant tracking software

  • Demonstrated skill in recordkeeping, data collection, and analysis reporting

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees and staff; and to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a high-paced environment

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Education, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Position requires driving; Must hold a valid Virginia Driver's license
