Employment Tax Manager
We're seeking an experienced Employment Tax Manager to join our growing team.
Aprio’s tax professionals are committed to exceptional client service and developing and implementing intelligent strategies that can assist our clients with their federal, state and local employment tax issues, as well as help them identify cost savings opportunities.
The Employment Tax Manager offers the opportunity to advise clients on complex employment tax issues, support transaction-related projects, lead consulting engagements, and help expand a specialized practice within one of the fastest-growing advisory firms in the country.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex tax challenges, working on sophisticated consulting engagements rather than pure compliance work, building trusted client relationships, and contributing to the growth of a highly specialized consulting practice. It is open to flexible remote work, with preference for candidates located new major Aprio office markets (Atlanta or Chicago preferred).
Responsibilities:
Client Advisory & Consulting
- Serve as a trusted advisor on federal, state, and local employment tax matters.
- Provide strategic guidance regarding payroll tax compliance, withholding requirements, information reporting, worker classification, and employment tax risk management.
- Advise clients on complex employment tax issues resulting from mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and other corporate transactions.
- Identify employment tax savings and process improvement opportunities for clients.
- Review and prepare employment tax analyses, technical memoranda, and client deliverables.
- Assist clients with IRS and state employment tax audits, notices, and controversy matters.
- Support preparation and review of amended employment tax returns and refund claims.
- Conduct technical research utilizing platforms such as CCH, Checkpoint, Bloomberg Tax, and other research tools.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service and technical expertise.
- Collaborate with partners, directors, and cross-functional service teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Identify additional client needs and support business development initiatives.
- Mentor, develop, and coach associates and senior associates.
- Review work product and provide technical guidance.
- Contribute to practice development initiatives, training, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) accreditation preferred
- Recent experience working in a public accounting firm or in a multi-state payroll tax environment
- 4-5 years' experience years of payroll tax consulting and/or compliance experience in the employment tax space
- Experience in federal, state and local employment tax matters including compliance and issue resolution
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Computer expertise including knowledge of technology
