Engineer - Lighting Control

  • Lead or support the design of lighting control systems across various sectors including hospitality, residential, entertainment, offices, cultural and mixed-use projects.
  • Develop lighting control strategies, system architecture diagrams, control schematics, equipment schedules and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate lighting control requirements with architectural lighting design, electrical systems, AV, BMS, ICT, façade, landscape and specialist systems.
  • Define control zones, dimming groups, scene-setting requirements, user interfaces, sensors, gateways and integration points.
  • Support the selection and technical review of lighting control equipment, panels, modules, gateways, keypads and control interfaces.
  • Coordinate control intent with dimming protocols such as DALI, DALI-2, DALI-8, phase dimming, 0-10V, DMX, RGB/RGBW control and video/media control interfaces.
  • Review supplier proposals, technical submittals, control narratives, shop drawings and commissioning documentation.
  • Support project teams during tender, construction, commissioning and handover stages.
  • Provide technical input to bids, proposals and early-stage client discussions where required.
  • Guide junior team members and support knowledge sharing within the lighting design team.
  • Experience in interfacing and integrating lighting control systems with theatre consultants, show control systems, AV teams and specialist entertainment systems for event-driven, performance and immersive entertainment projects would be a strong advantage.

  • Proven track record in designing and delivering lighting control systems within the built environment.
  • Strong understanding of lighting control protocols including DALI, DALI-2, phase dimming, DMX, 0-10V and related integration methods.
  • Experience with scene-setting strategies, dimming curves, control zoning, emergency override, astronomical/timeclock control, sensors and user interfaces.
  • Familiarity with reputable lighting control brands and platforms, including their architecture, configuration principles and typical project applications.
  • Ability to produce and review control schematics, system architecture diagrams, schedules, specifications and integration requirements.
  • Practical understanding of how lighting control systems are engineered, installed, programmed, commissioned and handed over on site.
  • Experience coordinating with MEP, AV, BMS, ICT, architectural and interior design teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical control requirements clearly to clients, consultants, contractors and suppliers.
  • Comfortable working across multiple project sectors and adapting control solutions to different operational needs.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in lighting controls, smart buildings, entertainment integration and user experience would be an advantage.
