The Planet Group is looking for a Communications Specialist to join our well-known Fortune 500 client on a 12-month contract, working an on-site schedule in Framingham, MA

Communications Specialist | Qualifications:

  • Seasoned professional; minimum 5+ years of experience in a communications role.
  • Prior experience working within R&D or Software Development environments.
  • Must possess the technical acumen to understand and communicate effectively with an engineering/technical audience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • High level of maturity and autonomy; no hand-holding required. Ability to sit in executive-level meetings, extract key communication points, and independently craft executive-level communications and presentations. Strong executive summarizing and message alignment skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft 365 Suite (PowerPoint, Word) for creating high-level presentations and executive summaries utilizing data.
  • The broader engineering group uses Atlassian tools (Jira, Jama), but the candidate will primarily operate within standard business tools rather than technical engineering software.

Communications Specialist | Description:

  • The Engineering Communications Specialist is a hands-on, high-judgment individual contributor embedded within the Office of the Chief of Staff (OCOS). The role partners directly with Engineering leadership to translate complex technical strategies, operating priorities, and transformation initiatives into clear, compelling, and actionable communications.
  • You will act as a force multiplier for leadership--ensuring messages are not just delivered, but understood, retained, and acted upon. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, execution, and narrative--and requires both sharp thinking and strong output.
Responsibilities:
1. Content Development & Execution
  • Create high-quality communication assets, including:
    • Executive presentations and leadership decks
    • Organization-wide updates, announcements, and narratives
    • Talking points, FAQs, and summaries
    • Internal knowledge hub and content platforms
  • Ensure all communications are clear, concise, audience-appropriate, and high signal
2. Engineering Narrative & Messaging
  • Translate Engineering strategy, transformation efforts, and operating priorities into clear, repeatable messaging
  • Build and maintain core narrative frameworks used across leadership communications
  • Drive consistency across forums, channels, and leadership voices
3. Leadership Communications Support
  • Partner directly with the Chief of Staff and Engineering leaders to:
  • Shape messaging for all-hands, QBRs, and major milestones
  • Prepare executives with strong framing and talking points
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on how and when to communicate (without owning the decisions)
4. Operating Cadence & Change Communications
  • Support communications tied to planning cycles, product milestones, and org changes
  • Develop structured communication plans for changes in process, tooling, or operating model
  • Reinforce messaging over time across multiple channels to drive adoption
5. Enterprise Alignment
  • Partner with Enterprise Communications to ensure alignment with corporate voice and standards
  • Translate enterprise messaging for Engineering audiences (and vice versa)
  • Ensure Engineering's story is accurately represented at the enterprise level
