IWSR is the leading source of data and insight on the global beverage alcohol market. We're part of the WGSN group, and our data is used by the world's biggest drinks brands to make decisions.
About the role
We're looking for a hands-on engineering leader to run our small, capable engineering team. You'll still be close to the code, the person the team turns to on a tricky problem, and the voice of engineering with senior people across IWSR and the wider group.
This isn't a role for someone who wants to step back from the detail. It's also not a role for someone who just takes requests. We want someone who helps the business work out what it needs, and isn't afraid to push back when something doesn't make sense.
You'll report to the WGSN Group CTO.
What you'll do
Lead and grow a team of five engineers, earning their trust by being in the work with them
Own the architecture and technical decisions across our client platform, researcher tooling and data products
Stay hands-on: reviewing, building and prototyping when it matters
Work closely with the programme, product and data teams to agree priorities and make honest trade-offs
Hold your own with senior stakeholders at IWSR and across the group
Lead how we use AI, in engineering and with colleagues across the business
What we're looking for
You currently lead a small engineering team (roughly 4 to 15) and still code or review regularly
Experience with data platforms or data products
You've worked in a business big enough to have real structure and stakeholders, but small enough that you did a lot yourself
Examples of challenging the business and changing the outcome
Practical, hands-on experience using AI tools in engineering
You see this as a long-term move and want to build something here
Useful context:
IWSR is part of the WGSN group. The engineering function has a close relationship with WGSN's technology organisation, and part of this role involves navigating that relationship, understanding what IWSR needs to build itself versus what it can draw from shared group capability.
London, hybrid (3 days a week in the office)
