Engineering Lead / Engineering Manager
We are partnering with a global technology company that is looking for an Engineering Lead / Manager
to join its Warsaw engineering organization and lead a full-stack team responsible for a high-scale, business-critical payments platform.
The platform is already in production and processes millions of dollars in transactions every day. The team is expanding the platform with new capabilities, integrations, and workflows.
This role combines people leadership with strong technical ownership. You will lead a team of full-stack engineers, work closely with Product and other Engineering teams, and contribute to the technical direction of a complex distributed system where reliability, scalability, correctness, and observability are critical.

- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of full-stack engineers.
- Own technical execution and engineering quality for the payments platform.
- Partner with Product to turn business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Contribute to architecture and technical direction of a distributed system.
- Ensure high standards for reliability, scalability, resilience, maintainability, and security.
- Guide technical decisions around distributed systems, databases, APIs, asynchronous processing, and integrations.
- Drive improvements in system performance, observability, monitoring, and reliability.
- Ensure robust payment-processing practices including idempotency, retries, failure handling, reconciliation, and data consistency.
- Balance feature delivery, scalability improvements, and technical debt.
- Participate in architecture and code/design reviews.
- Improve engineering development and delivery processes.
- Support production systems, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
- Help hire and onboard new engineers as the team grows.
- Promote AI-powered engineering tools and workflows across design, development, testing, debugging, code review, and incident investigation.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend or full-stack development experience.
- 2+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experience.
- Proven experience building and operating high-scale distributed systems in production.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts: asynchronous processing, idempotency, retries, concurrency, data consistency, transactional integrity, and fault tolerance.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, data modelling, transactions, and database performance.
- Experience with APIs and service-oriented architectures.
- Experience with event-driven or queue-based systems such as SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar.
- Experience working with AWS or another major cloud platform.
- Strong understanding of testing, observability, monitoring, alerting, and production incident management.
- Ability to make pragmatic technical decisions balancing speed, quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Strong communication and people leadership skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Product, and business stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with payments, fintech, banking, accounting, or financial transaction systems.
- Experience scaling systems during rapid product or business growth.
- Experience modernizing established production systems.
- Familiarity with PHP, JavaScript, Node.js/TypeScript, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, or AWS SQS.
- Experience with security, compliance, or audit requirements in financial systems.
- Experience introducing AI-powered development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or similar solutions.
