Engineering Manager

The purpose of this role is to support All ConvaTec Operations around the Network by leading, advising, teaching, and providing technical knowledge and expertise to operational teams on all manufacturing equipment and auxiliary system. This position will bring support to Global Engineering on project development, project execution, continuous improvement which support the Annual Operating Plan (AOP. Incumbent will foster an understanding of the client/customer needs and mission and support the integration of the technical expertise and strategic value of engineering in meeting these needs.


Key Responsibilities:

• This role is key to the future success of ConvaTec and by reporting to the Sr. Director Engineering will be accountable for:
o Driving capacity expansion initiatives and project via delivering new technology machines and production lines.
o Legacy machines and processes upgrade and retrofit.
• Develops collaborative relationships within Operations, and with external vendors, to manage the successful research, development & innovation of technologies/machines.
• Possesses an excellent technical knowledge of Convatec’s products, materials & process technologies and has an excellent understanding of proprietary & innovative products, materials & process technologies to identify and implement engineering solutions that deliver continuous improvement.
• Manages the continuously update 5–7 year Capex plan on basis of Business Unit capacity analysis and strategy.
• Manages the Capex planning and tracking of deliverables to secure timely preparation and submission of business case, CAR, PR etc to be on time for realization of capex and supporting deliverables. In cooperation with Finance team ensure updating of Capex Management system (CMS).
• Ability to technically and commercially evaluate vendor proposals for machines and technology.
• Manages the implementation of new equipment and process improvement projects to ensure that Operations delivers a value added ‘return on investment’ in line with the approved business case and CAR.
• Develops, communicates, and executes Global Engineering management strategies and visions that are aligned to the ConvaTec business.
• Develops manufacturing proposals and project management techniques to ensure effective project delivery of quality, cost and time.
• Develops and ensures compliance with local and global policies, engineering and EHS standards.
• Builds and leads a high-performance team by collaborating across the business, securing the best available talent, recognizing, and rewarding creativity and innovation, developing staff through learning opportunities and providing on-going feedback and coaching.
• To ensure compliance with the legislative and internal requirements of the EHS and to participate in the fulfillment of the company's targets in the EHS area.

o Experience in working with Project models eg Stage Gate Processes
o An understanding of Medical Device Regulations, and experience with Design Control is desirable.
o Competent in the use of Microsoft Office. Experience with Microsoft Office Project is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
o Experience in project management with cross functional teams either in Operations Projects or Product Development projects.
o Experience with SCRUM based sprint planning is desirable.


Qualifications/Education:

• Graduated in Engineering (University degree in Engineering technology required) focus preferred.
• +7 years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in medical device manufacturing or pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience in Project Management and Continuous Improvement Projects.
• Knowledge of Process Control (DPMs, CPMs, Variance, etc...)
• Must have a thorough knowledge of costs.

• Know CVT's EHS and OH policies and the standards that support them.
• Understand EHS risks and all requirements related to their job responsibilities and the appropriate controls in place to manage those risks and requirements.
• Execute their job responsibilities professionally and in compliance with internal EHS requirements and procedures without compromising their own safety or that of others.
• Be alert to EHS hazards in the workplace, responding to them appropriately and immediately communicating them to responsible management as soon as they are identified (e.g., spills).
• Participate in community, training, and EHS awareness initiatives.
• Help drive continuous improvement of EHS performance, recommending potential improvements to responsible management.


Special Factors

Employee is assigned to a specific shift, but flexibility in scheduling (including off shift and holiday work) and the ability to set priorities is required to meet the needs of the business in a manufacturing operation running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
