🚀 Join fiskaly! Help Us Simplify Receipts for Millions
Millions of people interact with fiskaly every day, even if they don’t realize it. As a B2B company, we power the retail technology behind digital receipts and secure, legally compliant transactions. In Italy, we help retailers go fully digital and eliminate the need for hardware like fiscal printers to issue and manage receipts.
By making receipts tamper-proof through digital signatures, we help fight tax fraud. And with our paperless receipt solution, we offer consumers a modern alternative while helping merchants streamline their operations.
Sure, our solutions sound complex but our mission is simple: make receipts easy for everyone.
💼 The Role
You'll lead one or more engineering teams building the backend services behind our fiscalisation platform: 5 to 12 engineers, all reporting to you directly. You're accountable for your people, the technical direction of your services, how the team works, and what actually ships.
The stack is Go, inside a distributed system. Our services run in regulated, high-SLA environments, so reliability is a standing constraint on everything the team does. You'll work alongside a PM counterpart, your tech leads, SRE and QE, and the wider Engineering Leadership Team.
Problems here tend to arrive unclear. A real part of the job is turning them into credible multi-quarter plans and helping shape what the team takes on next.
🛠️ What You’ll Do
- People: hiring against your headcount plan, 1:1s, feedback that lands, growing engineers into senior and lead roles, sponsoring promotions, and addressing performance issues early. We expect you to build a strong, diverse team that people want to stay on. A team where delivery pressure never costs trust or psychological safety.
- Technology: technical direction, set with your tech leads and senior engineers. Architectural decisions get made deliberately, tech debt gets managed, and your team's engineering health trends the right way.
- Process: how the team plans, estimates, delivers, and reflects. You right-size it for this team using flow and capacity signals.
- Delivery: multi-quarter outcomes, with your PM counterpart. You translate ideas into plans, surface risk early, and steer to outcomes over outputs. You also make technical reality legible to the people who need to follow it — Product, Customer Support, Sales, leadership.
- Quality and reliability: prevention work with QE and SRE, incident response for your team, and postmortem actions that close.
- Cross-team partnership: keeping dependencies from falling between teams, coordinating with peer EMs, and contributing practice back to the wider engineering org.
👀 What You Bring
- An engineering background. You came up as a software engineer and have stayed close enough to the craft to make sound technical calls and earn engineers' trust.
- At least 4 years managing software engineers as a manager rather than as a tech lead — depth on one high-impact team, breadth across several, or both.
- A track record of delivering product outcomes through a team, over multiple quarters.
- Experience launching and operating services at scale in a distributed system.
- Credible technical challenge. You don't need to write the code, but you can question a design, weigh trade-offs, and push back with substance.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including explaining deeply technical topics to audiences who don't share your background.
- Comfort setting direction with incomplete information.
- Calm and direct under pressure — in incidents, and in difficult performance conversations.
- Pragmatism about process, tuned to the team and the moment.
🌍 Nice to have
- Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive domains: fiscalisation, payments, fintech, healthtech.
- Go, distributed systems, observability.
- Having led a team through a significant phase shift — a rewrite, a migration, a reliability turnaround, or a scaling step.
- Scale-up experience, where the org changed shape underneath you.
- Hands-on experience with agentic workflows or LLM-assisted development as an engineering leader.
✅ What We Offer
- Hybrid setup and flexible working hours
- Budget for personal and professional development
- Hardware of your choice: Windows, Linux, or Mac
- 25 vacation days
✨ Why fiskaly?
We work on real problems in an industry that needs solid tech, and the team is pragmatic and direct about how to solve them. We care about how things work.
