Engineering Manager Git and Gitaly Operations
You will lead engineers responsible for the Git and Gitaly infrastructure layer. You will ensure production reliability, manage incidents and postmortems, and design service models across self-managed, dedicated, and SaaS deployments. You will guide cloud-agnostic architecture, distributed storage and replication practices, and elastic compute and capacity strategies.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a team with deep platform expertise in Git and Gitaly
- Own production reliability for Git and Gitaly across the full deployment footprint
- Drive incident management, root cause investigations, and postmortems
- Design and operate Git and Gitaly service models across Self-Managed, GitLab Dedicated, and SaaS
- Maintain cloud-agnostic architecture and tooling decisions
- Partner with deployment-model teams to keep operational practices coherent
- Apply distributed systems fundamentals to Gitaly's storage and replication model
- Own elastic storage and compute strategy for Git repository data, including capacity planning, autoscaling, and consumption-based provisioning
Requirements
- Familiarity with GitLab product and deployment models
- Hands-on expertise in Git internals, including the protocol, object model, and storage layer under load and at scale
- Strong distributed systems fundamentals, including consistency, replication, failure handling, and horizontal scalability
- Experience running production infrastructure across multiple deployment models or a credible path from adjacent experience
- Experience with elastic storage and compute and consumption-based system design
- People management experience, ideally leading site reliability engineering-style or platform operations teams
- Experience with Gitaly, libgit2, JGit, or another Git implementation's internals is advantageous
- Experience operating cloud-agnostic infrastructure across multiple hyperscalers or on-premises environments is advantageous
Benefits
- Health, financial, and well-being benefits
- Flexible Paid Time Off
- Team Member Resource Groups
- Equity compensation and Employee Stock Purchase Plan
- Parental Leave
