Engineering Manager

Description

About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead one or more engineering teams. You will report to the Head of Engineering and work daily with the Product Manager and the Senior profiles on your team, as well as with the Staff Engineers who provide cross-functional technical support to your area.

We measure you by how well the team decides, delivers, learns, and grows, not by how many decisions pass through you. The team resolves routine work autonomously, turns to the Staff Engineer for technical challenges, and to you for organizational problems. You ensure that all of this works without anyone becoming a bottleneck.

We are evolving towards domain-organized and more autonomous teams; your role is to consolidate that change.

What you'll do

  • People. You are responsible for the growth, performance, and well-being of your teams. You drive career development by progressively exposing people to next-level responsibilities and facilitating the transition between technical and management tracks when it fits best. You monitor workload and detect burnout or stagnation in a timely manner. You participate in hiring and ensure that those joining integrate well.
  • Ways of working. You ensure the team has a clear mission, ownership of everything, and clarity on at what level decisions are made. You guarantee that ceremonies function without the need for you to direct them, you unblock when necessary, and you correct the root cause. You protect the team's focus against parallel work and organizational noise.
  • Delivery. You create the conditions to deliver value in a predictable and sustainable way: clear priorities, realistic commitments based on capacity, complexity, and risk, and risks that are visible and escalated on time. You track the team's predictability (planned vs. delivered) and drive corrective actions when it deviates.
  • Technical health. You ensure there is clear technical leadership and space for Senior and Staff profiles to exercise it and grow others. You guarantee that every sprint reserves capacity for technical debt, security, and maintenance, and that quality, reliability, and incidents are managed with a focus on learning.
  • AI in development. You drive a useful and responsible adoption of AI tools in the development cycle: you provide space for experimentation, measure its real impact, and watch over security and confidentiality.
  • Product and business. You understand the domain, the customers, and the business well enough to make good decisions. The Product Manager decides on functional prioritization; you provide engineering constraints, risks, and opportunities early and unblock coordination when it gets stuck. You ensure the team understands why what they build matters.
  • Organization. You collaborate with other Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, Heads of Engineering, Product, Platform, and Professional Services. You detect systemic problems that cannot be resolved within the team and escalate them where appropriate, thinking about the organization as a whole.

What we're looking for

  • At least 3 years of experience as an Engineering Manager with direct responsibility for people.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of agile methodology (scrum). (Mandatory)
  • A demonstrable track record of building teams that function with autonomy: you have created clarity, ownership, and ways of working, not just coordinated work. (Mandatory)
  • A solid foundation as a software engineer: sufficient context to understand risks, trade-offs, and technical debt without needing to be the one deciding the architecture. (Mandatory)
  • Clear communication upwards, downwards, and sideways, including giving difficult feedback and representing risks to stakeholders. (Mandatory)

Nice to have

  • Experience in the world of fraud prevention, AML, payments, fintech, or regulated environments. (Desirable)
  • Experience with high-volume, low-latency systems in production, including incidents, on-call, and reliability practices. (Desirable)
  • Experience with AWS, Docker, and Python. (Desirable)
  • Additional training in leadership or people management. (Desirable)
  • Experience with agile frameworks and accompanying organizational transformations or domain-organized teams. (Desirable)

Education & certifications

  • University degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Software Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Position located in Madrid, with a 50% hybrid work model.

Upon joining Lynx, you will enjoy multiple benefits, such as:

  • We promote flexibility through a hybrid and collaborative work model.
  • We empower your growth with specialized training and career opportunities in a global technological ecosystem focused on data and AI applied to fraud and AML.
  • We seek to make your working days more accessible, so you will have restaurant vouchers and family support measures.
