Engineering Manager

Salary: £80,000 - 80,000 per year

• Significant hands-on data engineering experience in a technical leadership role
• Strong expertise in modern data platforms, including data pipelines, ETL/ELT, data warehousing or lakehouse architectures, SQL, Python, and orchestration frameworks
• Proven experience building and operating medallion architecture platforms (Bronze, Silver, Gold)
• Strong experience with Microsoft-based data technologies, including SQL Server and cloud-native data services
• Experience implementing data quality, lineage, monitoring, and observability frameworks
• Good understanding of master data management concepts and enterprise data modelling
• Demonstrated success leading, mentoring, and coaching engineering teams
• Experience operating within hybrid internal and outsourced delivery environments

• Design, build, and optimise data pipelines supporting a modern medallion architecture
• Develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT solutions across ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving layers
• Build and support data platform capabilities using Microsoft technologies, including SQL-based environments and modern cloud data services
• Implement robust security, tenancy isolation, and performance controls across platform components
• Develop data products and APIs for analytics, integrations, AI solutions, and emerging intelligent applications
• Work with wider data teams to ensure mastered and governed data is effectively modelled and delivered
• Translate architectural vision into practical engineering standards and best practices
• Lead design reviews, code reviews, and technical decision-making
• Establish and enforce standards for data quality, observability, lineage, and governance
• Mentor the data engineering team and provide direction and oversight for database administration and operational support
• Manage, coach, and develop data engineers, setting objectives, monitoring performance, and supporting professional development
• Foster continuous improvement and accountability through clear performance metrics and outcomes
• Collaborate within a blended team of internal and external delivery partners
• Partner with Product, Architecture, and Engineering teams to deliver data-as-a-product capabilities
• Work with development teams and third-party partners to ensure solutions meet agreed standards

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (Data) to lead the design, build, and evolution of an enterprise data platform supporting advanced analytics, AI, and data-driven decision-making. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will be the senior technical authority for data engineering, combining hands-on technical leadership with team development and influence over technical strategy. This hybrid role requires three days per week on site in Glasgow, where free parking is available. The salary is up to £80,000, plus benefits including an enhanced pension contribution.
