Discussion
The Engineering Manager position entails the leadership of MCO global product development teams across the entirety of the software development life cycle. This role focuses on our MEAN stack platform (MongoDB, Express.js, Angular, Node.js) hosted on AWS, with MongoDB Atlas as the primary data layer. Key responsibilities encompass ensuring the quality of team outputs and optimizing customer experiences, along with maintaining strict adherence to coding standards and promoting automation initiatives.
The role involves mentoring and guiding engineers, proactively identifying and mitigating technical risks, and facilitating effective communication between engineering and other stakeholders. The manager oversees deployment processes across AWS infrastructure, monitors system performance, and provides decisive technical leadership during incidents. Ultimately, this role aims to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and innovation in MCO software development practices.

Responsibilities

  • 10+ years of experience in product development (including up to 3 years in engineering management).
  • Strong full-stack engineering experience with the MEAN stack: MongoDB, Express.js, Angular (2+), and Node.js in a product development environment.
  • Proven experience designing and operating production workloads on AWS, including services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, and RDS/DocumentDB or MongoDB Atlas.
  • Hands-on proficiency with MongoDB Atlas: cluster management, performance tuning, indexing, aggregation framework, change streams, and backup/restore strategies.
  • Maintain hands-on involvement with coding approximately 20% of the time.
  • Expertise in architecture and design reviews, system design, code reviews, customer issues, troubleshooting, and defect triage.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve complex distributed-systems issues.
  • Demonstrates resilience and flexibility, consistently adapting while managing priorities with efficiency.
  • A strong willingness to learn and a growth mindset.
  • Excellent communication and servant-leadership skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of agile development methodology (Scrum, Agile, and Kanban).
Preferred:
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or CDK).
  • Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS ECS/EKS).
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues (SQS, SNS, Kafka), and microservices patterns.
  • Background in a product-driven SaaS or financial services company.
  • Architect-level experience is a plus.

Requirements

Agile & Team Leadership:
  • Own the effectiveness of the Scrum Agile process and adherence to good agile practices for the team.
  • Be responsible for the quality of the teams’ outputs and the customer experience of our products.
  • Lead product development teams through all stages of the SDLC, from requirements gathering through production deployment on AWS.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative engineering culture focused on delivering high-quality software products.
  • Mentor and coach engineers to foster their technical growth and career development, with emphasis on modern JavaScript/TypeScript best practices.
Technical Leadership – MEAN Stack & AWS:
  • Hands-on participation in all technical activities including architecture and design reviews, code reviews, coding, troubleshooting, and defect triage across the MEAN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, Angular, Node.js).
  • Define and enforce coding standards and best practices within the engineering team for TypeScript/JavaScript, Angular component architecture, RESTful API design, and Node.js services.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure high code quality and adherence to engineering standards across the full stack.
  • Oversee MongoDB Atlas configuration, schema design, indexing strategies, aggregation pipelines, and data migration processes.
  • Drive architecture decisions for AWS services including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, and related infrastructure.
  • Identify technical risks and challenges early in the project lifecycle and propose mitigation strategies, particularly around scalability, security, and cloud cost optimisation.
Delivery & Operations:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into technical specifications.
  • Drive automation in the engineering teams, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform/CloudFormation), and automated testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement in development processes and tools to increase efficiency and quality.
  • Act as a technical liaison between engineering, product management, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Platform Test teams to ensure thorough testing and validation of software products.
  • Oversee deployment and release processes using AWS-based CI/CD to ensure smooth and reliable product launches.
  • Monitor system performance via CloudWatch, application logging, and APM tooling; address technical issues promptly to maintain product stability.
Provide technical leadership during incidents and outages, facilitating root cause analysis and resolution across the application and infrastructure layers
