Engineering Manager, Product Engineering
The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, is the international organization for public-private cooperation.
The Forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
Why we are recruiting?
The Forum is building world-leading digital collaboration platforms, knowledge and data tools, and digital event experiences for our constituents. As part of the evolution of our engineering operating model, we are moving from technology-vertical teams to durable, cross-functional product teams supported by horizontal engineering practices. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the people and the outcomes of one or more of these product teams: owning delivery, developing the people, building the culture, and clearing the path for the team to do its best work.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will remain close to the code — contributing directly to product development — while being co-responsible, together with the Product Lead, for the delivery, quality and business impact of your team’s work.
Reporting Lines & Interactions
Part of the Forum IT Team, the Engineering Manager reports to the Product Engineering Lead. You will partner closely with a Product Lead and Product Managers on roadmap and priorities, collaborate with Practice Leads who steward platform standards and hold the technical bar in hiring, and work alongside an embedded Quality Engineer within your product team. You will also coordinate with fellow Engineering Managers to ensure cross-product engineering alignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Product Lead on roadmap and priorities, taking co-responsibility for the outcomes of the product team — delivery, quality and business impact.
- Lead hiring of engineering resources for the team, run high-quality 1:1s and performance reviews, and own headcount planning for your team.
- Develop the people and the culture: coach engineers on skills and growth, resolve conflicts within and across teams, and foster a continuous learning environment.
- Stay technically credible and close to your team’s day-to-day engineering work by supporting design decisions, reviewing code, and contributing hands-on where it adds value to delivery and quality.
- Drive the technical analysis of new projects and features within your product team, ensuring solutions are well understood, feasible, and aligned with agreed engineering standards. Partner with Practice Leads to surface platform-specific needs, technical debt, architectural risks, or cases where divergence from paved paths may be required.
- Ensure agent-assisted development workflows and paved paths are effectively adopted and used in day-to-day delivery, and maintain cross-product engineering alignment with peer Engineering Managers.
Requirements
- University-level degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience in software engineering, including 2+ years leading and managing engineering teams with a proven track record of shipping digital products.
- Demonstrated people-leadership skills: hiring, coaching, performance management, and conflict resolution across cross-functional teams.
- Strong command of at least one major API/web development language and framework — such as Node.js, Python, Ruby on Rails, or Go — with the breadth to read, review, and contribute across related product engineering domains.
- Ability to shape end-to-end solution architectures across product experiences, APIs, data, integrations, quality, security, and operations.
- Comfort with RESTful APIs, service-oriented architectures, relational, document, and vector databases. Familiarity with frontend, mobile, Salesforce, automated testing, CI/CD, and release readiness practices is a strong advantage.
- Practical experience with agent-assisted (AI-assisted) development workflows and a strong point of view on how they change team productivity and quality.
- Experience working in structured, Agile delivery environments with issue-tracking tools such as Jira, in close partnership with product management.
- Exceptionally clear documentation and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a complex, international organization.
- Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
