Engineering Manager - Rail
The Engineering Manager - Rail will lead multidisciplinary rail engineering teams delivering design, engineering, and technical assurance services for Rail Infrastructure projects. The role is responsible for managing engineering delivery, ensuring compliance with Network Rail standards, LU regulations, project quality requirements, and achieving project objectives related to safety, cost, schedule, and technical excellence.
The Engineering Manager will act as the primary technical authority for rail engineering activities delivered from India, providing leadership across Civil, Track, Signalling, Telecom, MEP and multidisciplinary rail projects. The incumbent will work closely with UK stakeholders, project managers, clients, and engineering teams to ensure successful project execution and delivery.
Engineering Leadership
Lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting UK rail projects.
Provide technical leadership and direction throughout project lifecycles.
Ensure engineering solutions comply with UK Rail industry standards and client requirements.
Drive engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Establish engineering governance frameworks and delivery methodologies.
Project Delivery Management
Manage engineering deliverables for multiple rail projects simultaneously.
Ensure projects are delivered within agreed scope, budget, quality, and timelines.
Monitor engineering progress and address technical or resource constraints.
Collaborate with Project Managers for planning, forecasting, and delivery management.
Review project performance metrics and implement corrective actions where required.
Technical Assurance & Compliance

Lead technical reviews, design assurance, and independent checks.
Approve engineering deliverables prior to submission.

Resource & Team Management
Manage engineering resources across disciplines.
Develop workforce plans to support project demands.
Mentor and coach engineering managers, lead engineers, and discipline heads.
Conduct performance reviews and support career development.
Promote a culture of collaboration, safety, diversity, and inclusion.
Risk Management
Identify project delivery and technical risks.
Develop mitigation plans and monitor risk registers.
Escalate critical issues appropriately.
Ensure lessons learned are captured and implemented.
Commercial Support
Support bid preparation and tender submissions.
Provide technical input for project estimates and resource planning.
Review engineering effort calculations and project budgets.
Contribute to business development and strategic growth initiatives.

Master's Degree preferred.

PMP or PRINCE2 Certification
APM Qualification
ISO 9001 Awareness
- Experience Requirements
Min. 15+ years of engineering experience.
Minimum 10+ years in UK Rail projects.
Experience managing multidisciplinary rail engineering teams.
Proven experience in engineering delivery for Network Rail projects.
Strong understanding of project lifecycle and technical assurance activities.
Experience managing offshore engineering delivery centres.
