Engineering Manager
About the company
Our client is a fast-growing software company.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead and grow a product engineering group while continuing to write code yourself. You will set technical direction, establish repeatable ways of working and partner with several internal teams to get new features into production.
What you'll do
- Manage and mentor a small group of product engineers and expand the team considerably over the next six months.
- Write backend-focused code for APIs and user interface layers while building out the team.
- Partner with research, deployment and product colleagues to release new features to production.
- Define technical strategy and introduce lightweight structure that lets the team scale and lowers dependence on any single person.
- Work closely with engineering and executive leadership on priorities and delivery.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- At least 1 year of people management experience, including leading projects that span several functions.
- A track record in a fast-paced, rapidly growing technology environment rather than a slow, process-heavy one.
- Prior hands-on product engineering work in a quick-moving, engineering-led organization.
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or another STEM field.
- Strong hands-on backend-leaning or full-stack skills, including Python and JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Solid grounding in software architecture and API design, with experience running services reliably in production.
- Genuine interest in applying AI to help research move faster.
Bonus points
- Exposure to applied AI work or research-oriented computing.
- A life science background.
